I don't know what's going on but it seems like the stress level of the 914 nation has gone through the roof. How about a little activity to help bring is all back into sanity? Go spend 20 minutes in your car. Bond with your car. Drive it if you can, sit in it if you can't. Take a picture of yourself in it. With your own hand or with a timer. No helpers. Post your picture here. Also include what your next car goal is. Mine is to rebuild my brake calipers so my car stops!

It's all about the cars so it's time to reconnect with your project.

Happy 914! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

That is actually a good idea, Tomorrow morning, first light, I will go out and take my picture amongst all my parts and post it here. I spent more than 20 minutes today with mine. Its now primered one color so I can see where else I need to do work. Me and my car have bonded. It loves me and never tells me it has a headache, it always wants to play and since it has never been driven by me, it has never let me down. I have shed blood working on it so we have become blood brothers. Its a destiny that nobody will come between. My car and I will hit the road soon. It will be a finished song when complete.

I don't have a picture but I spent some time with my upholstry guy today. We drove the car about 50 miles. We discovered the timing belt was breaking in and was very loose! ( engine was missing) I have several tweeks planned but not for a couple of weeks.

Mark, How's that new engine working out?

I really like the Olympic blue to, but the car has rust and is kinda rough up close, its a good driver tho.

The Phoenix Red 74 is a 2.0 car and very solid and so far is rust free, but I haven't removed the rocker covers yet, but even the hell hole looks real good, the interior is good also.
I'm gonna sell the Blue 74, and use the cash on the Phoenix Red car.

I think you could have fit with some driving shoes (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol2.gif) Really, It was great meeting you! I've been enjoying watching the progress on your car for the last year or so. My son Kyle really liked your car! We walked around together voting at the Show and Shine. He walked back to it about four times.

Im at school and dont have a car or a camera, but my garage would look a lot like Martin Baker (914 on jackstands and a butt load of RC cars on the shelf).

As soon as finals let out Im going to assemble my 2056 (aka the Money Pit) and finish my shrouds and engine bay.

It's fun. I need a KitCarlson to put on it since the stock FI isn't cutting it. I know there's more power in the engine. Gotta pull it still and fix the oil leak. I might get aluminum pushrods to replace the chromoly ones I have in there now. They're loud.

No stress on this side of the line (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Dunno if it counts, but I changed the oil and brakepads on my dad's Boxster this weekend and I cleaned a lot of 914 parts out of my garage (put them in storage 'till I can sell them).
So I got my hands dirty, but I didn't really work on the 914.
No pics either...

Must admit though that I've been going cold turkey since I got home after a week full of 914 only action (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

cheers,

Jeroen

Didn't drive the 914 yesterday, and got in this morning to A LOT of gas fumes. My car's always smelled a bit of gas, but this was crazy. The whole way to work, I had the window down and was still getting nauseated. Got to work, checked engine bay, nothing. Stuck my head in there, no gas smell. Checked the gas tank next. Stuck my head in there as well. No gas smell. Seems to be only in the inside of the car. Where are the fuel lines located that run thru the car? That seems to be the next logical place to look. It never ends... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

Jenny, the fuel lines run straight down through the tunnel, It might be time to replace those old plastic lines with SS.

The designers did a pretty good job keeping the fuel lines hidden in the 914. Up front they hid them under the fuel tank, which means you have to lift the tank out to access them. In the middle they hid them in the center console, so you have to remove the carpet and little access panels to get a limited view. In the rear they left them exposed and routed them under the battery where they could get a periodic acid rinse.

Good luck finding the source of the fumes. Be careful.

I think the fumes enter the 914 in other places beyond those mentioned. One good practice is to check the heat exchanger flaps that are sometimes stuck in the wrong position allowing fumes to accumulate in hotter weather. My lack of owning a 914 for what seems a long time makes my flap explanation sort of foggy. Ask Damp Dave. He'll know the right way to a better explanation and possibly solve the fumes in the cockpit.
