as I mentioned , the hood needs a complete do over due to bubles on the previous primer (previous PO) perhaps was sitting for too long. I used th wonderfull airplane paint remover to get it stripped.

Good deal on the hood. Laying down paint on a unstable base will just lead to trouble.

I'm impressed with your kids. I didn't think kids got into any type of auto work these days. They look a bit young to be thinking "If I do some work for Dad, then I'll get to drive it." Even the youngest one is focused.

Make sure you neutralize that aircraft sripper before you start sanding the hood again. You dont want to sand the chemicals into the metal!

Hm, I didn't think about that, What do you suggest to use for that.. the last time I used it on my rims, I sprayed brake cleaner.

yeah, Thanks

The kids in the picture are my friend's. My 14 year old is very active, he helps a lot with all the projects. He already claim my 1970 to drive to High School when he turns 15 1/2.

After completing this one, my next project will be to have him strip the 70 and do the body work over with my help.

Well, I did not do what I had planned for the evening, but it was not wasted. I wanted to do what i call a posible final prime, but the rain didn't do me justice. it has been raining all evening here.
I managed to finish stripping the hood, treat it with brake cleaner to get the chemical out and repatch the needed spots with bondo. it is all ready for primer.

I also sanded the engine cover and have it ready for primer as well. we will see what the weater brings tomorow.

Nice progress. There are about 4 cars running at the same pace. Interesting how many folks are at the same stage.

Also very cool to see your Son involved. Nice bonding time for sure at that age.

Awesome Paul.

My son helped me a ton with my SC backdate when he was 14. Was a great time. Now he is 16 and is into his F250 so we do things on it together. He has helped a little on the 914 but not as much as the 911.

Brake cleaner should work but personally I wouldn't have used brake cleaner on primer. Read the label on the aircraft stripper, It should say something there. Good progress though!

I spent about 2 hours doing more pain striping on the panel below the winshield, that was the final part with that old primer. Better to be safe than sorry. then came the fun part.

The car is fully primed, I have about 10 small spots to go over, and it is ready for paint. the small parts should take me about an hour, includes reprime over the sopts.

I just got a tracking number for my paint, it looks like i should have it by thursday. I think that i will be painting saturday if the weater is ok.. here are the pics enjoy!

I preped the trunks and floors using paintable rubberized spray. and cleaned the whole car. getting ready for paint over the weekend.

Looking good!

FYI spray under the targa bar a day or so before you spray the body.. Its a PITA to get in there and you have to lean on the car (which would be bad if you were spraying the body at the same time)

I use my 2 car garage.

Give yourself 4 feet on each side (if you spray the hoods off the car you only need a couple of feet on the back and about 3 feet up front). Also plan for lots of lighting.

THIS was a pita... You really need walking room.
