actually, I was stuck behind a Boxster S at Putnam Park for a lap or so. When I finally got the wave by I missed the 3-4 upshift and it became a 3-2 downshift at 6000 rpm. It made a strange noise and leaked horribly at one of the pushrod tubes. I wasn't going to be able to trust the motor without a thourough inspection then repair. I'm very nervous about all this. The disassemby seems simple, but it's the reassembly that has me concerned. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

Sean,

Hey, while you have the motor out of the car, could you (or anyone else for that matter) make a simple measurement for me? I need the back to front distance from the bellhousing mounting surface of the engine to the very front of the engine tin. As I see you've probably disassembled it beyond that point, the measurement to the front of the fan shroud would be fine too. I hate those 3-2 UP SHIFTS!!

Thanks a bunch,

Andy

Good to see progress being made!

Take lots of pics, some notes and back them up on a disc.

How did you get the motor from the cart to the bench? manually lift?

dad came over and we removed the HEs and just lifted it to the stand. It wasn't bad at all. I'm using the furniture dolly as a wedge under the motor overnight.

He has a RennShifter (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

The problem is you actually have to PUT it in 4th yourself - no help from the shifter on that one.

Last time I saw the car it had VERY loose tail shifter linkage, though, too.

Send me that shifter for your side shift conversion, Sean!
