Picked up my current PPI for my 76. Outstanding original paint, original interior, outstanding Mechanicals.
Outstanding car as Clay said when I bought it, Leamon said 4 mounts ago when he put in new hoses and readjusted the restored PMB calipers. Only a couple electrical gremlins I could not work out. This great example of a 914 is going to Belgium to a Porsche collector. This and my outstanding 86 Carrera Cab. Making room for my 6 to come home in a few months after Eric does break in and shake down. Bob B |

Working with the blaster and the vacuum was full of crap. What I mess to clean up. Found out that the “do your own Zinc plate” needs to sit in the vinegar and Epson salts for a couple of days to get the Zinc to go into solution well. More Zinc till it looks like gray primer. The gold finish did not come out to good and I ordered more of the SODIUM DICHROMATE DIHYDRATE 1 Pound to get the mix to look like what was on the Internet. After I get it all worked out I will post my workings. Waiting to pick up my 76 today from its PPI. It looks great. driving it back home Bob B (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) Looks great so far, do you have a link to the recipe you are following? I will do a write up on this as I have used a couple of different recipes. Phase one white vinegar and Epson salt. Zinc pieces that I found did better when I let them soak for 2 days. Some people use sugar. I did not. I found with one day of Zinc soak it did not deposit what I was told would look like gray primer. Had the wrong steel wool also. too rough 000 fine stuff is right. Dichromate was to little and ordered more to make the color mix to match what I see from Bruce Stone. More soon Bob B |

I made a new alternator loom and connected it all back up , bit by bit. Everything works, no burnt/blown anythings.
It's even charging at 13.7 to 14.09v (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) The fire was limited to the loom itself. |

I received my latest bag of bits from 914 rubber. 3 days from over there to over here. Normally 3 weeks!
The fuel line has been re routed and now enters the engine bay via the original hole. The alternator has a new loom. The fresh air box has a new seal. I now have a wobbly wheel on the rear! Going to need a bigger power bar. |

Went to the Concours in the hills in Fountain Hills area of north Scottsdale. Hundreds of cars. Lots of newer 911s and only one 914...... Mine. Very strange. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Installed a vehicle immobilizer: hidden fuel pump kill switch. Not flatbed proof, but when parked with the top off an ounce more protection.
Beware cheap plastic toggle switches, they can’t handle the current over time. Bought a 32 AMP switch at NAPA. Pictures posted on the dark web. Muahaha |

Fixed a couple of scorched wires following the fire.
Re planned the fuel lines for the above engine area and tried to tighten up the rear axle nut to stop the play in the bearing. No joy, i need a more powerful bar to pull it in. Fitted the new frunk cable supplied by 914 rubber. Superb quality and glad that this niggle is sorted. |

Cleaned the goo from the windshield channel. Next is to give it a light sand and primer before installing my new Sekurit glass. The cats aren't digging the mineral spirits smell in the garage so I kicked them out for a while. Not like they're going to freeze at night with lows in the 50s.

Spent two days so far with solvent, scrapers and brushes removing forty years of grime under the car and from the engine compartment while the engine is out. Pleasantly surprised how good it is. Floor was replaced somewhere in its past. Will prime and undercoat shortly.
