F@#K - I installed my new Sekurit windshield and new trim today...well almost. Got the glass in OK and had the trim on except the 3 clips on the driver's A pillar. The glass was sitting higher on that side compared to the rest of the glass (I noticed that side was high when dry fitting the glass without the butyl but figured it would be OK). The trim was riding on the glass and I just couldn't push it down enough to engage the last 3 clips. I used a piece of wood against the trim and was hitting it with the palm of my hand which worked on the other 16 clips. So I gently tapped the wood with a rubber mallet (this is where you call me a DA) and voila 4 cracks appeared from the edge. 3 are about 1" long and the 4th about 3" long. So I marked them with a sharpie and started cleaning up. By the time I finished the long crack grew about an inch.
Rookie mistake for sure. So I've capitulated and contacted a glass shop who recently installed a China glass in my buddies 914. Need to getter dun for Rt 66 and I have no desire to start over. |

I have had that feeling removing a couple of old 914 windshield. You almost have it and then the Sound (CLINK) Yes, let the pro do it. It would have saved you money Bob B |

Nice day in Scottsdale for a ride in the '73... not too hot yet! Then helped a friend fix an exhaust hanger on his 1959 Alfa 2600 spider. Great old cruiser! Took it for a little ride after the fix. Surprised to find it has a 5 speed transmission in '59!! Should have taken a picture of it.

Finished cleaning the seat belts with a few runs through the dishwasher. I cycled them through the "heat dry" function about 10 times which dried them out nicely.

I put some already clean car parts in our brand new $1K dishwasher and forgot to remove them before the wife got home, did that once and never again after that a@@ stomping I got from her, hahaha |

Got our 1979 928 back after a two year mechanical and interior restoration... the paint is mostly original (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Had a blast taking it for a run in the rain... all systems working (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Attached thumbnail(s) |

Jeff, great looking 928. Bet she’s a blast.
Steve, that is a great looking machine. Yesterday replaced the front sway bar bushings to hopefully stop squeaking. Finally adjusted/bent wiper arms to stop sqeaking and chattering (squeaking blades drive nukin futz, thanks YouTube), recentered steering wheel after fixing horn contact last week. |

A couple of weeks ago, I contacted my insurance carrier (State Farm) in AZ about an antique vehicle policy for my '66 912 (with a valuation of $40k) and was pleasantly surprised at how ridiculously low the premium was.
So I contacted my insurance carrier (State Farm) in CA yesterday about getting an antique policy quote for the '75 914 too (with a valuation of $15k). They'll be getting back with me on Monday (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) Requirements: Vehicle needs to be 25+ years old, limited to being driven 1,500 miles annually, and for driving to & from automotive-related events (no problem) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) They want pix of the car, including the motor, and a list of any other upgrades (we'll discuss what those particular upgrades are on Monday) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

OK, didn't take the 914 but went on a Hagerty Spring Tour today in the greater PHX area. Started with a tour of a private musuem in Scottsdale that was unbelieveable- many REAL old classic Ferrari and Maserati race cars including a birdcage, real C and D type Jags, a 904 GTS, etc, etc, etc including a 4 cam engine just sitting on an engine stand! No 914's...
Ended at the Bondurant School where Bob was holding court... |

Flat towed it 74 miles each way, barely knew anything was behind us. My step-father-in-law helped out, it was great to have another set of hands helping once there at the yard. I was up until 10PM attaching it to the 914 the night before myself and then hooked it to my truck by myself yesterday morning, backup cameras are awesome!
Gilbert, bought him Fatburger for lunch which he enjoyed and had never tried before. There are no local steam cleaning places near me, the operator said he just had a customer from Sacamento and one from Oregon last week. Not cheap, I think I paid $375 but there was no way I was going to get it as clean. I didn't bother to ask for pricing before getting there and figured it would be in the $150 range, kind of got you by the balls when there! Will take some pics later on. |

$375. ??? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
I haven't been to a steam-cleaning place for several years, but the self-service one about 10 miles away was reasonably cheap - probably less than $20. to do a complete undercarriage. I'll have to run by there to see if the place is still in operation. If not, I can steam clean at my auto shop class. I've done the engine compartments in both of my Toyota trucks there. |
