I refurbished and installed a set of black bumpers. I shaved tit and tow hook holes. My bumper caps are from 914Rubber. Getting it ready for Route 66 Looks super Oscar. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) |

I scanned every receipt for every expensenever spent on the car from the date of acquisition then dropped the cost data into an excel spreadsheet............ taking into account the sale of the original 1.7 to the guy who built the 2.3-4 / then the cash from the sale of the 2.3-4 / to buy the 3.0-6 and trinkets to get that together......... On balance, this car is one of the least expensive six cylinder Porsche automobiles I have had the pleasure of driving over the years. It is arguably worth, in today's market, well over four times what I have in it and it is reliable and fun to drive. No heater, power windows, power brakes and/or power steering, bla bla......... dont need that in this ride / just an open road. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving-girl.gif) No pictures / new laptop and no imports (photos) just yet.......... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) Well, what did all receipts add up to? No, no, no... you don't want to do that... The fella I bought my car from didn't want to add all the receipts up, and after I went through them I could see why; it looked as if he went through the Patrick Motorsports catalog and just checked off all the boxes... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif) It can be a real eye opener. -HB Oh, I know! I’ve been hesitant to add up what I have as well. But, it sounded like he was brave and had a total. Ha ha! |

Finally got my new plates from the DMV. What a gen-u-wine cluster it was but at last, I have them.
When I was a kid, there was a 914 running around town with these plates on it. It's a bummer that I couldn't get them in Blue and Gold but, I'm stoked that I got them at all. (If it doesn't make sense, just say each letter out loud to get the gist of it.) |

Took the rods and bearings off my 1.8* , guess who is getting new bearings? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
*low mileage rebuild with flat cam The crank looks good, will measure in next few days. I know the 2.0 rods use different bearings than my 1.8, what about the crank bearings? Same for 1.7 thru 2.0? (besides oversize) |

Those wheels look like Campagnlo wheels. Very similar to the original Mangusta wheels.
They look very good on a 914. What color is the car going to be? |

Thanks guys.
The wheels are by Group 4 Wheels I had them on my old Martini 911SC and they are very nice. These are 15x8 and 15x9 with Michelin TB15 tires. The car will stay silver. It had an extensive big dollar resto about 18 years ago and has hardly been driven since. The underside, trunk, engine compartment is in near perfect silver so it would be pointless stripping back to a shell again. The bodywork recently completed consists of the steel gt flares, fibreglass bumpers, rockers, valance, through hood filler, gt oil cooler setup in front, gt bonnet pins, hood lights etc etc. it will run a subtle but different livery once painted. |

Not MINE, but did this today for another member here.....
My toys are still sitting on the Optima maintaining chargers..... Need some rain to wash the last distribution of salt off of the roads. It seems as this might happen tomorrow or over the weekend.... Waiting impatiently for Spring to officially arrive. |

I stopped by my friend Trevor's house (our local welder) because he had this '60 coupe out front. He did the sunroof install for a client, the car has a lot of "nuances," parts from different era Porsches in the mix.
He invited me to follow him up to the Porsche Obsolete/Period Correct event in Costa Mesa, nice drive up the coast. My 914 was the only one there. |

C&C in north Scottsdale this AM. Quite an eclectic group of cars with perfect weather. 2 914's today and sometimes a couple nice real 6's show up. One friend with an original owner adriatic blue 6 brought his E type this morning... nice to have that choice!
(and thank God I'm still in AZ- it's SNOWING in IA this weekend) |
