After spending 8 hours working on Toast's car Sunday, I felt obligated to work on my own (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif) I like it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif)Got the injectors un-gummed up like a pro... Also got the engine back together and tried to start it. Now I have squirts and no sparks (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) which is actually good because I might be stupid and try to drive it to Rt66 in 2 days after being parked for 10 years (IMG:style_emoticons/default/slap.gif) For those that would like to know... I got the injector pulser off ebay for $30 (All Sun EM276) and the ultrasonic cleaner from Harbor Freight. No $avings over Pro cleaned but I'll use it many more times. |

Yesterday I drove a 914. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/MDB2.gif) No not my car silly....
Cali914 (Harry) drove over from Berkley and graciously let me drive his 3.5 Acura V6 powered 914 .... what a f'n rocketship , we may or may not have hit 100 on the on-ramp to the freeway (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) This car easily out accelerates my old '91 964 with the 3.6 motor. What a blast it was. Car needs a better transmission than the old 901 otherwise the car is perfect, it hits the scales at 1900 pounds due to 'glass decks and no door window or wipers or other non-essential items. Today, started to work on engine again: Removed gears from crank, and installed new gear on camshaft (thanks to McMark for the 5 bolts) McMark also sent me new bearings for the rods and crank, thanks Mark. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) How well did the ultra sonic cleaner work? I've got a gallon of the Chem dip on my bench, as well as a vibrating tumbler to clean old nasty parts. The walnut shells are disintegrating in the tumbler and the dust is sticking to the bolt threads... I was thinking maybe the ultra sonic cleaner could handle that...? |

Converted fog lights to driving lights. Just a matter of changing out lens. Lens are very rare.

Sandy (seaside914-6) drove up from Seaside/Monterey and visited for a while, went out to lunch and I got to drive his 996 Twin-turbo out in some twisties near the house.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/MDB2.gif)
I did take the cover off my 914 and showed him what I was working with. Found out car was originally Light Ivory L80E, someone had painted it a brighter white at some point in time (and did a terrible job) |

I cleaned up and prepped the rear sides of the bumpers for paint.
I also started to refurb the rocker cover panels. Last night i stopped the seeping leak from the rear left brake caliper. Need to get that brake pedal firmer now. |

Jim, the gap on my back trunk is too wide on the passenger side also (albeit not as wide as your before picture). How do you adjust it?

Jim, the gap on my back trunk is too wide on the passenger side also (albeit not as wide as your before picture). How do you adjust it? First, We measured the side gaps near the engine grill and wrote them down. Then subtract the smaller gap and get the difference. This will be used after any changes. Next, we both loosened the bolts on the trunk hinge. I pulled the hinge on my side to get the bolts closer to the edge of the hinge slot; Eddie did the opposite. Tighten up the bolts, close the lid, and remeasure. Went through this a second time and the gaps got real close to being equal. Then, we looked at the gaps at the rear. They were off a little; we loosed the bolts that hold the trunk latch ( the one on the lid). Moved it over a little, and ended up with the rear gaps pretty close. Two people make this very doable. A small change on the hinges or latch make a good change.... If that wasn’t going to work, I was prepared to remove the lid and the latch. Then widen the spots on the hinge and latch where the bolts needed to be with a metal cutter _ Drexel bit. Fortunately, we did’ have to go there (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Attached image(s) |

Jim,
Right on now. Looks super Bob B I walked past my V8 car 50 times today. Getting ready for an art show. No time to work on Porsches for a month. |

Working on my engine, added the oil sloshing cutouts in the rods. I know many people just use a file (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Had great time at Rt 66 BBQ meeting a bunch of great 914 owners for the first time. PMS tour was unforgetable. After that it was time to put more hours into mine. Worked on a gauge cluster terminal strip to put some simplicity into connecting new modern gauge setup to orig harness. Complete with finger nail polish color coding thanks to my daughters.
