REALLY nice repair on that wheel! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) What, exactly, did you do/use to finish the weld? I was going to mount it up on my lathe or milling machine and use some electrically powered tools but in the end used a hand file and then various grades of wet and dry over a cork base. A cloth buffing mop in a drill to finish them off. Sometimes I just like to do stuff by hand - it's kind of therapeutic ! |

Got a rock chip in my windshield on Rt 66 and decided to fix it myself since I’ve had 2 new insurance windshields this year. This was the first drive with the second new glass.
Came out pretty pretty good Before And after Then I filled the tank and went for a short drive before putting it away for the summer. It was 106F in Scottsdale today. |

Cut out the MPS mount and relay board brackets. Pulled the gas tank, fuel lines are a little too close for comfort when doing the engine mounts.
Next are the -4 engine mounts and battery tray to come out. I have a feeling this might be pandora's box of rust. |

Go on now........ your shop is an example of what a home shop should look like / tools neatly organized, a few things in progress (like a 901 fully opened up without concern) and a 914 on the table ready for a conversion / not to mention a 2.7 - 6 and 3.0 in the works / unlike me, understated........ good on ya... I have a bad habit of bouncing around on several projects at the same time. When I hit a stumbling block or get frustrated with something on one, it goes on the side or back burner for a while (914 content included). Glad to say after I finished my wife's CT-90 refurb, I've been devoting almost all my time to finish the Ghia.
With the most important tasks completed (brakes and steering done), I thought I was done for a while, but yesterday, the throttle cable snapped. I reevaluated what else other needed done. I had already ordered a ton of parts, so in addition to replacing the cable, also replaced the fuel tank filler tube, all the vacuum lines, the dash gauge lamps, and new fresh-air hoses and a rain tray in the engine compartment. I attended the OEBC (Orange Empire Bus Company) - Volkswagen enthusiast group's 19th annual camp-out & picnic at Featherly RV Park in Yorba Linda today, to see an old VW friend and pick up a couple more needed items. A lot of nice vehicles on display Just like 914s, the Ghia's shifter linkage is feeling a little vague, so I talked with the guys at the BENCO Transaxle booth about installing new shifter bushing as well as their 'Freeway Flier' tranaxles. They offer different gearing options for different size motors, including type 616 motors, just in case it ever comes to that (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) ... Hoping to install the bushings this coming week (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif) |

Some looks ok and some looks a little crusty. Someone has patched the driver side long before, but they never patched the bottom of the long. This will need to be cut out and patched
Hell hole is not too bad, but will need patching as well. I ordered a right side engine tray today; not sure that I really need a whole panel. I think just a small patch is needed for the existing tray. That might save me a couple hundred bucks. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) Attached thumbnail(s) |

I fitted the final 2 pieces of engine tin seals that arrived saturday.
Started examining the paint/body for imperfections and damage since spraying it. There is quite a bit to repair thanks to clumsyness. Got my gas burners booked in for new rubber on friday And found that the horn and wipers are now not working! |

I pulled out the engine gasket surround thingies. Damn it was filthy under the car. So instead of cutting out bad metal, I went into my stalling tactic and cleaned up the engine bay and under the trunk floor instead. Nice and clean now. I scared myself when I walked into the bathroom and saw myself in the mirror, LOL! You know its bad when you keep the gallon pump bottle of orange pumice cleaner in the shower...

Been awhile like others I drift off to other projects, have my Montesa 349 nearly done, got my daughters MK 3 Golf sold and have been doing some small payed jobs, next mission is to sell the 87 GTI Golf my son and I started before he moved up north....great wee car I'am really not keen to sell but needs be ,he has just got his IT degree from university but has loans to pay back.
Decided yesterday I would get the 914 out for a run and fit some parts I have bought from members on here, nearly started on my compact battery but I did't let the fuel bowls full up,a battery change and she fired up. A blast to drive as always .......really got get this car road legal (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) but still have a fair amount to do. . |

I win.. Now to decide if I want to put a new battery tray in or put my battery in the rear trunk. I have one of the smaller sized batteries that will fit there.. What do you think?
