Got back to the radiator install, redid the drivers side shroud. Used my cutoff wheel instead of tin snips. Much better.
Also fired up the mill |

I hung my restored by me leather wheel on my wall on my cave. It came out very nice. Great stitching and I fixed up the leather. Bob B (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) That looks great! what cover/kit did you use? This is on my winter to-do list. Me too. I need to do 2 or 3 of them. |

Actually took a few minutes to work on my own car. After driving my 914 at last Sunday's autocross in the rain. It was time to do a little tuning on my roof. First observation, early roof on late car. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) One of the problems that arise when you have inventory.
(IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I didn't take a before shot, but it was way off center. By sliding both silentblocs all the way to right. I get a much nicer and tighter fit on the side windows. I'll go thru my inventory and find the correct late roof. LOL. She also get a new rubber spring for the horn pad. |

There are a few things that get changed out when mixing tops. I had no idea before. On my '70, apparently I need to buy a different set of rear latches and change out/remove or "something" to do with blocks which make the roof a tight squeeze, if not done. Hopefully @bdstone914 will chime in here regarding this insight. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

No recover I just cleaned and reworked the leather. The stiching was 100% on this used wheel. Yes it was a good buy at $150. |

the new speakers arrived today and i finally fitted the last of my 914 rubber parts stash, new speaker pods. i now have tunes.
i got stuck under the dashboard (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) found a hairline crack in the paint next to the passenger door latch. the paint is a bit thick so that's been rubbed back and is now in primer. lastly i started to remove the excess compound residue that's in some nooks and crannies. that is like cement!! veggy oil didn't soften it. panel wipe didn't touch it. currently have gt85 soaking into it. |

Ended up with another Rennshifter - thanks to T.C. I didn’t want to loose height on the lever and I hate the crush washer install so I grabbed the correct thread stainless bolt, JB welded the head into the knob and slid on a stainless washer to support the knob against the lever. Not as light as it once was but I bought it for looks and comfort. Just have to polish the lever and I’m done my 5 minute project.

Good job, Mark. I'm not crazy about the crush washer and free floating shift knob either. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

I want to do the same thing. Threads look like they are fine instead of coarse. Pete |

Good job, Mark. I'm not crazy about the crush washer and free floating shift knob either. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) I had purchased 3 knobs from Zach and one came with threaded rod already installed for my existing rennshifter. I think it was aluminum to keep it light - great detail, but I ordered the other two this way so I could modify to suit any shift lever, like the one on my cableshofter or the Miata lever on my Suby conversion. I should have bought more knobs... |

i painted the underside rear of the roof to finish it off. I also touched up a couple of chips and the door hinge bolt heads to tidy up & protect the a pillar area.
i need to figure out why my roof sits too high at the back and set up some kind of headlight alivnment marks on my garage door so that i have a target to adjust the headlights to. oh and find a couple of blanks for the interior padded parts. also put the topcoat on the passenger door latch area. will let it cure overnight before i blend it in. |
