Hopefully I'll be back working on 914's next week. Client project list is getting a bit long.
But I'm finishing up prepping Rothsport Racing's 964 Safari car for the Olympus Rally this weekend. It has finished 2 Mexican 1000's. Now it's time for some smoother gravel roads. The business end of the car, detuned Rothsport 3.6, 335 hp & geared to 115mph. Running on Braid wheels and Hoosier gravel rally tires. Package arrived from Chris yesterday, hopefully will get back to the Carey family vintage 914 race car next week. |

Who says a 914-4 cannot lay rubber on two rear wheels.
It rolled in a year ago but did not want to release the rear brakes now. My 70 garage find car that sat in a garage from 85 on is off to a new owner (Greg Rotvik) in Oregon with a stop to Kent’s to fix the body a little. This is really a nice body on this car and should make a very nice 6 Bob Burton (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving-girl.gif) |

Found a pair of nice Hella USA tail light lenses that I had in storage for years. My wife said she likes the look of the European lenses better, and I happen to have a pair of those in storage as well, so I'll be posting these in the classifieds (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Didnt give up on it. Cut, grind, weld, primer, swim, music, beer, grill food. Do it again tomorrow. Key is in it but does nothing.

Spent 4 hours last night trying to get driver's door handle to work - plunger inside misses the latching mechanism. Did some bending on the metal flange that is supposed to hit the plunger, but now the plunger hits it but then then slides off. Guess I'll be taking another whack at it. Cannot figure out what has happened. One day the handle worked, next day it didn't.
Anyone know a history of this happening? But there are 2 other issues: I pulled the latching assembly at least a dozen times, completely re-conditioned it, even soaking it in carb cleaner, re-lubing it. The sliding movement up and down of the locking assembly is far too difficult, as if something is binding - but I sure can't see what it is. Also, went to remove the 10mm nut on the door flange that is hidden with the door closed to remove the handle assembly - and guess what? The stud embedded in the cast door handle material spins in the cast metal. So I cannot get the nut off. Any suggestions for that? GN |

Complete oil change today in the garage.
It looks simple in theory, but it's not on a /6. I had to take the left side header completely off, and I (brilliantly) figured out to weigh the the amount of old oil on my bathroom scale to calculate out how much oil to put back in the car, plus a new filter. I was pretty proud of myself after undoing three oil lines to drain/clear them AND the engine drain plug. Dang, I'm drinking a Moscow Mule now........... |

I put a notch in the stud with a hacksaw and then used a narrow screwdriver to hold it while I removed the nut. While you have the handle off, peen the edge of the stud and apply anti-seize to the stud. Greg W. |

Greg -
Brilliant. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cheer.gif) A bit embarrassed that I didn't think of that myself, as I've done similar things in the past. Think I'll cut the notch with a Dremel tho.......... Thank you. GN Also, went to remove the 10mm nut on the door flange that is hidden with the door closed to remove the handle assembly - and guess what? I started my engine for the first time in years!
Over the last couple months I've been getting the wiring and fuel plumbing set for the engine to go in and last week I installed the engine. This weekend I got enough done to get power and fuel to the engine and start it. I cranked up oil pressure and flushed the fuel circuit but no other adjustments to the engine. In fact when I installed the points I just adjusted the gap by eye and have not checked the dwell or timing yet. I am on my 5th fuel pump, the first 4 either leaked or didn't run. I'm going to try to link my video of the start. Jim https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoWboz7pNsA |
