Removed the upper and lower dash pads today as well as the vinyl. Still working a few other things but, it all gets the car that much closer to being a finished product.
The upper pad tore as I was pulling it out. 40+ years in the sun will do that I guess. Also ended up breaking the bezel around the gauges. There were cracks around all of the screw holes so, it was inevitable but, I got a replacement on the way so, that's good. I posted a few more pics on my restoration web site http://www.2002and914.com/809/ Attached thumbnail(s) |

Took out the old torn up stock seats (one had a horrible upholstery job)
The carpet just fell to pieces in some areas and the paper covering the heating tubes just disintegrated when touched. There is more rust on the floor and at the bottom of the rear firewall than I thought. For now I just might leave as is , throw in my new-to-me seats and deal with it later on in the winter. |

Painted the firewall that I welded in last week on the red car and tightened up the new fuel lines (leaking) at the injectors on the orange car.
Getting ready to install clutch, throttle and speedo cables on the red car. |

Installed a Ecliptech shift light between the gauge cowl and the windshield. I have one in the 997. I set the first light to come on at 3,000 RPM and do not go over that until the oil is hot, especially in the 997. Then I have it really flash at 6,500 so it is helpful and both ends. Good product. No affiliation.

Ran the clutch, throttle and speedometer cables thru the tunnel. 1 step at a time. Next is to put interior back together and get the gas tank back in place. Tomorrow is another day. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif)

Drove it to cars and coffee at Laguna Seca. 4 914’s including mine. R Gruppe is having their 20 year anniversary tour and was there in force. @Michael N You should have been sporting one of these ! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif) I sport one of these as well as a couple dozen others who really dig their ‘slightly modified’ teeners. Yes we frequent the World too. |

Yesterday, valve clearances (glad I paid somebody else to do it!), and engine and trans oil changes. Replaced EMPI alumin(i)um valve covers with stock covers and bailing clips. Now the valve covers fit and don't touch wiring loom...
Today signed for a big box from 914rubber.com full of seals necessary to keep the UK weather out of my 914... Don't ya just love spending money on your 914? I do... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Mounted $17 Oil Catch Can
Purchased this compact oil catch can on Amazon and mounted it on the battery tray: Tasan Racing Universal Aluminum Baffled 2-Port Oil Catch Can/Tank/Air-Oil Separtor Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HH97RFR/ref=cm...i_Vwg5Cb4R9B0S6 The included nylon hose fittings fit stock 12-13mm German cloth braided hoses perfectly. The can’s mounting bracket was easy to attach to an angle bracket to connect to the battery tray and this location affords easy access to the can for emptying and cleaning. Simply plumbed line in from oil chimney PCV valve and line out to manifold. Took a ride and actually noticed small improvements to an already well running engine-crisper acceleration, smoother idle, and less oil smell overall. Checked can after the 40-mile spirited run and there was a noticeable coat of oil in the bottom of the can-maybe a quarter to half teaspoon. Even though the engine is port injected and not as susceptible to valve deposits as a direct injection engine, I think an oil can is helpful to keep oil mist out of the combustion chamber. Will be interested to see if it eliminates the occasional smoke show on first start of the day. BTW this can seems identical to the Mishimoto Compact 2-port oil can that retails for over $130. It is either a very good copy or more likely it comes out of the same factory in China. |
