I used it as my train station car. No one steels 914s right?

Oh NO! Sorry Mark. Can you take traffic school to keep it off your record? Man that sucks.
As for me, I pulled the wheels off to have them checked and spun to be sure they are all balanced perfectly. Should have them back tomorrow. I met with the technician and explained what I was doing and why. He seemed genuinely interested and promised to take very good care of the wheels and make them 100% right. Of course his boss was standing there telling him they came off a fresh complete restoration car. |

Oh NO! Sorry Mark. Can you take traffic school to keep it off your record? Man that sucks. Nah no biggie, I was coasting after a downhill doing 106kph in a 80 so that's about 66mph in a 50, nice cop dropped it to 95kph. No points, $52. fun tax. Moments before I was going a lot faster...whew. |

Back in the early 70s, when the feds lowered the national speed limit to 55, I got a ticket for going 62 mph on the freeway in my '67 VW bus (IMG:style_emoticons/default/busted_cop.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) ... crazy days (IMG:style_emoticons/default/screwy.gif)

I welding up 35 holes in the passenger's rear quarter of my #1 project that someone in the past had slathered bondo into, after they'd pulled it straight. The welding followed by a cool water quinch actually got the entire panel back into it's correct contours and removed an 'oil can' that had been bondo-ed over. I was psyched . . until my grinding warped it again (and I went slow cause I know better too (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) ). So I get to deal with that tomorrow.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) Got the wheels back and put them on and took it for a nice drive. Rides as smooth as can be now. The shop told me all 4 were 1-2 ounces off. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Relatively new to the 914 world (but had a 911SC and a 1966 912 before), and love the car. Replaced the Chevy Camaro RS wheels with Fuchs replicas, removed all stickers and put a proper door decal on. Time for a photo shoot...(sorry I posted those on FB, I guess a few people already saw the pictures).

@Deetman - Amazing what a couple changes can do for a car. Your car looks very nice. Oh, and (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welcome.png) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Now that it runs good... had to pull it. Time to seal all the oil leaks (crank seals/trans seals/ pushrod tube etc..) valve adjustment and major cleaning. Project 71 is now underway!

yesterday i finally got some time to take the car out for a drive to test the speedometer cable and angle drive that i installed a couple weeks back, and i can report that the huge needle bounce i had going on is gone!! it was just annoying. So now that ij've put in the new 914rubber speedo gear drive thing in the trans as well, that all is updated and sorted.
Sucks but i may be pulling the transmission before Teenerpalooza because i have a squeek once the car is warmed up , and i am sure its the throw out bearing, which is only like 8-9 years old, was put in new when i pulled the trans to put in new clutch and flywheel, then i rebuild the trans at a DrEvil clinic about 5 years ago, cant remember if i kept the same one or changed it out but i guess 10 years a bearing could go bad, probably dont have 10k miles on it ... always something!!!!. next up, clear bra treatment !!! |

RADIO wiring hack to get an "accessory position" to listen to the radio with the motor off at no risk to frying your points.
while R&R of my ignition lock core assembly today, I tapped a wire off of the "S" terminal of the ignition switch (beneath the steering wheel) and routed it directly to the red accessory wire of my stereo head unit. I added an inline fuse of course. Now after the car is shut off, the radio remains on. When the key is eventually removed, the radio goes off completely and the radio circuit does not drain the battery. To switch the radio on, I turn the ignition key to the run position, without cranking, then let the radio come on, then turn the key to the off position, leaving the key in. The radio remains on until the key is removed. There is no parasitic drain. I saw this hack on a YouTube entitled "Replacing VW Beetle Ignition barrel and switch. It was done by "BoostedVW" eight years ago. The discussion of the radio hack is cited at the 15-minute mark of this 17-minute video. Attached thumbnail(s) |
