I did a dumb. Dropped off the 914 in the Spring for some work with the best 914 specialist in the region. While he got everything running well, he also junked some sub-par pieces that were hanging off the car including shredded heater hoses, and the transmission shift cover. I drove it a bit and ordered some new parts from 914Rubber. I removed the shift linkage to install the replacement cover. Trying to reinstall the linkage, the cone screw stripped out the few remaining threads on the knuckle coupler. After a couple failed attempts to get it back together, I ordered a new shift coupler (still available from Porsche) and bushings from 914Rubber. It fougnt me going back together, so I decided to take it back to the mechanic before busting it up any worse... So yesterday, I set the car into 2nd gear at the transmission, and drove about 4 miles to the mechanic (all on side streets) with only 2nd gear. Today, he reinstalled the linkage as well as new heater hoses and adjusted my rear brakes. I picked it up around 5:30 and drove the short ~4 miles home. It was totally rejuvenating to drive it with everything working just right. Your attitude towards these cars changes... When they're giving you trouble, they're a liability. When it's perfectly sorted and you go out for a drive, there's no better feeling in the world. +1 well said |

taking it in to get some protection in the form of the Xpel clear bra front hood and quarters! will feel a bit more safe from the random rock and road debris being kicked up, i have put this off for almost 2 years, and am tired of not driving the car as much as i want!

I’ve thought about doing this but have a few questions... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) How much do you expect it will cost? Is the film easy to remove? How do you maintain the film over time? |

How do you maintain the film over time? I was quoted $1000 with front hood, front quarters and the head lightcovers. that is installation and materials. Thats an great price. I've seen upto $1500 for the same work same product. On Xpel website you can buy direct frm them the pre cut kit and its $950 with out the head light covers. I think due to the fact that they are using the re-cut template kits for the hood and the quarters its less labor than free-handing all of it. Phil |

I replaced my accelerator cable also added the suspension strap and the clutch cable. The cables that were replaced did not have a Teflon sheath. The ones I put in do have the Teflon sheath and the clutch is noticeably smoother, it is so much better.

Only 65 miles today. First time out since we got 6 inches of rain last Wednesday. Flooding closed a lot of the small bridges in the county until yesterday. |

Recently acquired 1970 914 that has been mostly sitting for years. I drove it home but the brakes were horrible and it wouldn't shift. I'm 3/4ths through a full brake refresh with new MC, PMB calipers, soft lines, took apart regulator to clean/inspect. Found rear soft lines completely plugged. Almost done with new shift bushings through the car. The shift rod bushings in the car are completely disintegrated. While in there I put new fuel line at the tank end. Someone relocated the pump to the front in the past but didn't do the best job. I'll completely redo that this winter with new SS lines in car. The engine lines are original so those will go as well. I just want to drive this a bit before November :-). Thanks to Eric Shea/PMB, 914 Rubber, Auto Atlanta and the many members, technical experts that help us amateurs keep these cars going!
