Got the PITA Main Targa seal in today. Everything went okay, just sore tired hands. I did use a screen roller on the seal going down the channel, worked real good. Don't even want to tell you the time involved, lol. so now the old 71 has all new seals in window, and top area. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

Put her up on the lift and gave it a once over to make sure nothing came loose or was damaged on the 400+mile WCR weekend. Car was great.
I did have my driver side fog light lens and bezel separate from the housing. The grill kept it in place and no damage was done so next weekend I will take care of that. Car is now nice and clean and back under its cover in the garage. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

Replaced the Home Depot mesh on my front oil cooler with a piece I culled from a 914 engine lid grill. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sawzall-smiley.gif)
Who knows (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) it could be from a /6 or a LE.? |

Trial fitted new seat (Cobra RSR) – narrow enough to allow handbrake access (many aftermarket seats are too wide), fouls backpad, but seat is in exactly the right place for me so undecided whether to remove backpad and replace with carpet, or not.
Another plus is that the RSR is a very shallow seat, about the same depth as the original, so no height problems there, either. Narrower than stock runners, so waiting for some material to arrive to make simple adaptor. Getting ready to put the motor in the restored bay. looks nice!! it’s kind of fun putting all back together, and once you clean up the car like that it’s hard to put any old stuff on that motor! might as well do it all! isn’t it nice we have so many vendors that supply literally everything you want or need? |

Perhaps an upholstery shop could modify your backpad (if that is something you would even consider?) such that the new seat fits into the backpad better.
Seat looks like it offers a lot of support. Very nice. Perhaps an upholstery shop could modify your backpad (if that is something you would even consider?) such that the new seat fits into the backpad better. Seat looks like it offers a lot of support. Very nice. I'm probably going to remove the backpad anyway, as part of the 914's transformation into a road/comp car using full harnesses, but I agree a decent trim shop should be able to modify it to suit. The seat is now fitted properly – very easy mod using the stock runners. Removed the runners from the original seat, bolted then to the underside of a 40cm x 40cm piece of 4mm-thick alumin(i)um, on to which the seat itself is then bolted. The height of the seat squab works out to be exactly the same as stock – I'd been worried it may end up too high. So, now have supportive aftermarket seats and all the benefits of factory runners and tilt mechanism. Perfect! Worked on cleaning up the rear shift rod, stripping the rust, and treating with Ospho before painting. Then moved on to installing new 914rubber bushings into the shift knuckle. Tough to get started in the holes. Had to add a chamfer on the leading edge. @Mikey914 On the replacement bushings, are the holes supposed to be oblong? It's noticeable when not installed but I thought they would round out once pressed in, however, the holes still look a little large after pressed in. Wanted to get some feedback on this before I finish painting and putting this assembly back together. I had to replace that part on my 914 recently. I couldn't get the rod to seat into the hole. Very different to do when you can only jack the car up a few inchs. In the end I took to my friendly local garage. I relieved to see they had to file the hole to got the rod in. I wasnt being a completely numpty. |

There is even a place called "Hellhole Palms" in Borrego Springs. Isn´t that something? It was night and day more louder than my 3.2 with back pad. The owner drives with ear plugs. Curious if there is a way to put dynamat under the felt? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) I have a layer of Dynamat on the bulkhead already, and it made a huge difference. My plan was to try the felt/carpet on top of that and see– if it's too loud, I'll look into getting the backpad modified. |

Having been an AX racer for over 30 years (AX is how Betty and I met), it is the most fun you can have in your 914 with your clothes on!. Take sunscreen, water, and a hat. Just enjoy yourself. Clay |
