Finished "matting out" my engine lid and installing a new rain tray.

While draining my gas tank to make the brake m/c install easier, I found a good amount of sludge in the tank, so it was time to take it out. Gonna take it to the Radiator shop tomorrow or Monday.

The tank itself is in pretty good shape...

..but the area underneath needs a lot of cleaning & maybe some paint.

....and the trip down the rabbit hole continues, as this looks like the time where I should probably update the steering rack and add turbo tie rods, as well as replace the bushings on the sway bar. Will all that happen? ...probably not.

I drove the 4.0L around playing uber eats for my family. A trip to each of my sister's houses to pick up and drop off food, and then a trip to my dad's house to drop off Thanksgiving dinner for him.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

I also found out that the 4.0L will pull away from a 2012 911 Carrera 4S in a straight line. On my way out to my first stop, I turned a corner onto a 6 lane road, and the 911 turned from two cars behind me. I went to the left lane, and he decided to show the NARP what a REAL Porsche could do. He hammered on it, and when I saw him, so did I. He was astonished when I started to briskly pull away from him.

We both caught the next traffic light 1/2 mile down the road when it went yellow. I was in the left lane, and he was in the left turn lane. He rolled down the window and shouted "What the hell is in that thing?!?!"

I explained it was a 430HP hotrod 964 4.0L motor, and the car only weighed 2500 Lbs. He said he was impressed by the performance.

Score one for Team NARP! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Went for a little afternoon drive after doing a bunch of yard work, was just about to start the last (best part) fun leg of my loop and turned the corner, PUTT PUTT PUTT STALL... acts like fuel pump died (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

Ironic, got a text from AAA for the tow driver, note the number it came from, swear I didn't photoshop it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Had a couple of hours to go after the fronk and sail area.

Got somewhat lucky, both trunks have cleaned up nicely

Curious: What percentage of our 914's have little/no rust or does that not exist?

After watching the @TINKERGINEERING video on removing rocker panels, I was compelled to remove mine to clean and inspect. This is about 6k miles worth of grit and gravel. Some enterprising teener should design some inner fender skirts to keep the tires from throwing this stuff in there. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif) Attached Image

What is that material on the floor of the passenger compartment? Fiberglass?

My first 914, it appears factory, but I am now assuming not so. Either way it is sound

You mean these?

Also...lots of tips/tricks here via search about adding a little spacer to the bottom of the rocker to let the stuff drain out... if you buy 1/2 inch thick rubber spacers from the plumbing section of the hardware store, and longer stainless screws, you can space out the bottom and you won't see it, but all the crud can now fall out, all the time.....and never build up.

Drove it...

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/MDB2.gif)

The car is very much in need of a front end alignment. The old old style tie rods need to be replaced as well...before an alignment of course.

Hung the doors after putting all the glass and all new rubber / fuzzies in place (Thanks 914Rubber!) along with some sound deadening. Then put the Tangerine stainless fuel lines in, both on the '75. (the longs are going body color, just haven't gotten to it yet)
Attached Image

Having a little more time available I polished up the inside and put on a new to me decklid on the '74. I've got a little more adjusting to do but, it looks so much better than the old rusted decklid that was on there. What do you think @tdskip ?

@mmichalik - Love it! Nice work.

I had such a great drive in that car I went and bought/built a similar one.
