Those old lenses aren't multicoated to fight flare like current lenses. I'm an old Leica user and repairman, retired as photographer 19 yrs. ago. You spent the big bucks for that MP body! Yea. The older single coated designs have so much character. Most of my lenses for the Leica are '50s or older. I save the modern lens design for my Canon EOS cameras. Yea. That MP was pricey. I got it for a good price though. |

Ordered a few UK based parts I'm going to be needing in new year, as getting them after end of the month looks like it will be more hassle than its worth (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

I've had my 75 since April of 2019. The passenger door gap is a little narrow and I can see that the car has had a hell hole repair. I was concerned that the longs were compromised so I decided to pull the right rocker today. Good news, the longs are solid as is the rest of the tub. The undercoating probably helped a lot. The door gap is apparently what you get from a 1975 body assembly line. Not complaining.

I cleaned the car up, pulled it out of the shop, and took some pictures. I will be listing it for sale soon. I have some other 914 projects I want to conquer soon. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif)

Grab the door and lift up on it. If it moves it is most likely hinge pins. You can also force the door up with a 2x4 to straighten. Learned that from an old body man. Must be something in the water. I had my seatbelts refurbished last month too. They'd needed it for a couple of years. One day I leaned forward quickly and my belt didn't lock. That got me "off my dead ass and on my dying feet".

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) I lifted the door and there is no play in the hinges. Prior, I opened the door a bit and put a hydraulic jack at the rear of the door and lifted until I didn't feel good about it. Just lifting the door may help the rear top gap but then it will not line up with the mating rear quarter. It needs to be rotated clockwise and then dropped down vertically. Based on quick gap measurements the top hinge needs 0.070 inch milled off the back surface. I will need to calculate how much the latch end would rise. Then the hinges need to be elongated to drop the door by that amount. It will have to wait until I am able to get access to a milling machine to make the adjustment. Right now I am relieved that it is not caused by a rusted long. |

Carefully examine the metal at the hinge pillar above the upper hinge. That's a weak spot on the car. If you see any evidence of stretching (e.g., a wave or ripple in the metal) that could be the cause of your door sag. I had that issue on my driver's side door.

So I checked that area and it looks OK. Thanks. |
