@ValcoOscar - I really like the orange wheels and script, but I love the mini lite wheels and think the bronze you selected is going to look perfect. Can't wait to see pics of it in the sun, or even better, in person. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Agreeing 100%....
But I won't be able to see the car in person, darn.
Bronze will really be "dope" on your car.
Looks incredible!

Thanks. I took each one of my 3 boys for a ride in it now, ran it out of gas because I don't have a functioning gas guage just yet. Have put on 30 miles of reliable miles on it now..

I did a bad thing . . . (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hide.gif) Almost. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

Instead, what I did do is set a new personal record (IMG:style_emoticons/default/first.gif) and answer the question "How much gas does a 914 really hold??"

The last 2 miles involved strategic coasting after she started cutting out on right hand corners. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hands.gif)

Yesterday was an interesting day..... drove the 914 to work, perfect weather , 75 degrees, took a friend for a ride and going around a corner i hit something, went back to see what it was and it was my right side horn!!! turns out the '75 stock bracket came off completely!. then i get home and find that i am missing the right side chrome tip off the Triad exhaust. SUCKS, so i need to call Dave and see if he has any in stock.
Pulled the bumper and remounted the horn where the early cars have them, which works well since i have backdated bumpers.

Oh and one other thing yesterday, i blew the #8 fuse(7.5) 2x on the way home as well, thought that might be hard to figure out but , checking fuse box connections etc while holding the round relay for the fog lights, it blew again it was shorting out and blew out, swapped out the relays and turns out to be a bad relay that was shorting out, not the wires or plugs, but i had to swap one from the headlight and ordered a set of 5 new ones from 914 rubber. this was interesting since this round relay is a common one to many VW and porsche 911 cars, i would have thought that FLAPS would have these but no luck, so new red ones from 914rubber should be coming soon!. i have the blade fuse box conversion

Picked up the heads today from Dan at Competition Engineering in PHX for the '71. Definitely needed new guides, and a few other things. Haven't had the engine apart for at least 25-30 years...

Now I need to get it all together before the daily temps stay in the 110+ range!!

@VegasRacer

i liked seeing international gas price.
15.9 US gal = 60L. sounds right for a 914 tank, i remember it was a big tank for a small car. (mine is reduced by approx a quarter after rhd convert).

$60.00 USD = $78.60 AUD

Last weekend when i topped up it was just over $1.50 AUD/L for 95 RON.
60L in tank = $90.00 AUD

you still got cheaper gas than down here. just.
US fuel was once half the cost of Aus (early 90s)

Well, after having the fuel pump quit on me twice, I took the plunge and replaced it, along with the wiring and hoses. That meant getting the tank out as the old pump (a Facet solid-state one) had been wrapped in so much sound insulation that it was no longer possible to remove it through the factory inspection hole in the front bulkhead. My local specialists took pity on me and let me use one of their several lifts so I could work underneath the car more easily. Phew! I'm too old and non-pliable to work under a car on axle stands...

Anyway, all went to plan – I've mounted the new pump under the car next to the steering rack, so it's now accessible without taking out the tank. Why VW/Porsche didn't do it this way in the first place baffles me. If it was good enough for the 911, etc... The pump is one of Facet new-style solid-state jobbies, which is encased in nylon and incredibly quiet (unlike the old metal ones, which rattled your teeth).

When I removed the tank, there was a load of insulation material piled in one corner, with some husks... Yes, it has been home to a mouse. I hope I wouldn't find the mummified remains of said rodent, but alas, I did. Poor thing. But the little bas..., I mean, the poor mouse, had gnawed at both the earth and live leads, before dying. The pump was also rusty and the fuel filter had been screwed in to the wrong port by whoever installed it back in the '90s...

Fingers crossed it's all fixed now – having a pump crap out on you is one of the most annoying things in a long list of annoying things.

In the first picture is little Mickey – the ex-mouse. The second shows Mickey's home and the great wad of insulation that had been wrapped around the old pump to quieten it...

Mickey obviously liked plastic... And the insulation had made sure the pump stayed nice and damp at all times...

Old pump with filter on wrong side... Finished apart from refitting undertray. More accessible and a lot neater all round.

Twisted up some tubing and used the stock 1.7 engine mounting bar to build my cradle. I made this design so I'd have more room for the headers and the rest of my exhaust system. Still need a solution for the trans mount but I'm sure I'll think of something...

While Chris just talks about selling his 914.....I went ahead and sold mine. Currently gathering all the parts for the new owner, yes he is a member here.

I need my space back, with the car in the garage I’m so limited on space it is driving me crazy. I need to do some work on my mill and I just can’t due the car being right up against it. I had fun driving it and so did my twins who both got a chance to get some seat time as a passenger with a few acceleration runs. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/MDB2.gif)

New owner picking it up on Saturday, then I get my small garage space back, with plans to never put another car in it’s place.
