Going to get it filled up with non-ethanol gas today!

Would adding a bottle of Driven Carb Defender fuel additive be a waste of money, given it's fuel injected and I will be using non-ethanol gas?

Last hillclimb of the year - very last run was a PB, so a great way to end the season!

Very cool, what are you running for a mill?

Thanks - nothing trick at this stage. 2056 with AA forged crank, H-beam rods with ARP bolts, 1.8 heads with 42 x 36 valves, Webcam 86a cam, 96mm JE pistons in Biral cylinders, dual 44IDF Webers, SSIs and Pertronix 3 ignition. Made 130bhp. Stock transmission.

About to go to 78mm crank, 2.0-litre heads with 44 x 36 valves, 9.5:1 CR, DTA ECU and independent throttle bodies, light flywheel, etc, plus a Quaife ATB differential. Not sure about cam at this stage.

Today I thought about my 914. Still at the body/paint shop. Maybe when I get home I'll sit in one of the seats and make flat six noises?

Bittersweet weekend, sold my /4 that I've owned for 23 years and went and dropped it off to it's new owner. Since I've had the big six I just wasn't driving it enough, it needed to move onto a new home. Nice to have some garage space back to get projects done (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
I guess I'll need to change my avitar pic now, I'm a one 914 guy now. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif)

Sat. night taking wife out for dinner, lost ignition on interstate. Bad location traffic wise. Found 12v from ignition switch to Pertronix and MSD male & female connectors had pulled apart, but nothing shorted as they were safely bundled in plastic wrap. Thought I'd just plug them back in and go.

Didn't happen. Pulled out my handy VOM I keep in glove compartment, and zero volts at feed.

After finding out winch on my car trailer at son's house had been busted by tree limb, I tried insurance towing with no luck. Daughter picked us up, went home, got my pickup and a son, we towed my 914 with a strap to nearest exit 2 miles away and parked car in huge parking lot of huge shopping center.

Went back Sunday to try to get running with no success even after jumping 12v from battery to ignition. Today removed MSD from circuit to run just on Pertronix with fused jumper and car started and ran fine.

So I drove it home. Testing I found relay board is bad. Old relay board I repaired works fine.

But looks like MSD died - and it's a new one.

Wondering how a broken connection with no shorts to ground killed both my relay board (suspect trace from ignition switch to coil wire is burnt/broken)/

Wondering how MSD could be killed from just losing power - as that happens every time you shut off engine - and what killed the relay board?

Thinking arcing was occurring at connection point as just prior to failure I was getting intermittent ignition loss and tach failure......

Wondering.......

Took the shift coupler apart (from the rod) to install new brass bushings on the '71. And since it isn't presently able to be driven, took the '73 on a nice drive as our PHX area weather has finally broken and it was in the 70's and low '80's today!!

Ha! Love the sign too, yes it was a super 914, I was the second owner for the past 23 years, I hope he loves it as much as I did! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Sweet 914 turned 66,000 miles today. I drive it. Had 60,600 miles when I pulled it out of a barn in 2017 and put it on my trailer, having not run since 2005..

Runs like new now.....4 years and over 400 hours of B,S &T's....and I'm loving it......

I want to ask about your trailer. Is it a tilt bed? What length is it? We want to upgrade our trailer to an aluminum one, and are looking for recommendations.

did my 500 mile break in oil change, checked valve clearance and installed the aux oil cooler , necessary in the southern climate.

Changed the oil and filter for the new owner. Amazing how black the oil gets after just 1000 miles on a new engine build. Also while I was under there....adjusted both the clutch and the parking brake. Both are much better now. Plus I saw a lot of daylight between the engine sealing rubber and the engine sheet metal. A simple matter of pulling the seal over the lip in the sheet metal. Problem solved...no more daylight which means a cooler and cleaner engine compartment.

Last on the list for tomorrow is to try and lean out the MFI fuel pump. I've been given the steps by a local Porsche guru, so we'll see if I can pull it off. Currently the MFI is running a bit too rich for my taste.
