914e- I'm not sure what those are either, but I don't think I've ever used them on either car for many years, especially since we moved to AZ full time 3 1/2 years ago...
Just take them off, and don't tell your wife. See if she even notices! |

Installed LEDs for dash illumination. Looks great!
Figured with that done I would start to figure out why my turn signal indicator lamp (on the dash) does not flash. Had read that not flashing was an indicator that one of the bulbs was out. So started with the bulbs and realized someone had swapped the driving light and blinker wires in the RT front driving light unit. That means the higher wattage bulb has been running when the parking lights were on. Digging a bit deeper, the wire was completely melted with bare copper showing through. My assumption is that the higher current draw turn signal filament was just pulling too many amps for that wire and it overheated. Started to trace it to see if I could get to a “good” section where I could splice but, tracing across the front of the car, it’s pretty clear the whole thing is melted. I imagine the only reason there was not a short is that the wire is buried (melted) in with the other wires in the harness. So the plan is to stop tracing and run a replacement wire from the fuse block (it looks like that is where is comes from in the wiring diagrams) and somehow pull it through. I may need to get creative about how I get from the block to the bulb until some time when I have the fuel tank out and can run it with the rest of the wires in that harness. The turn signal indicator is still not flashing … Never a dull moment! |

Even fished the new one behind the fuel tank so it runs with the harness all the way. Parking lights and turn signal/ hazard lights working perfectly! |

Replaced the dash indicator lights with LED. Before and after shots of the high beam light below. Could not really even see it before … Just a quick question about replacing high beam indicator with an led bulb , have you tried your fog lights since the bulb switch? Mike |

35+ years after the PO cut the wire behind the fuse panel I fixed the door buzzer on my `71. Found out only now that the US 914´s had a 4-pole door switch. 2 for the interior light, two for the buzzer. Sounds so ugly, I love it. Bzzzzzz… (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Just take them off, and don't tell your wife. See if she even notices! DUH!!!! Come on guys you should know this already. They are for wiping the dust off the windshield after a dust storm. On Friday. I picked up the 914 from the GCU parking garage and ran it through emissions testing It passed loaded HC's at 500 out of 500. Perfect score!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) I found out you can ask the emissions testers for a one year or a two year cert on your test. If you don't ask, they will only give you a one year and they will NEVER tell you about the two year unless you ask for it(I wonder why that i$). |

Funny that … my fog lights have not worked since I bought the car. I had that down as a winter project. Is this one of those cases where the current through or resistance of an LED is too low to allow high beams to turn on? I understood that fogs are designed only work when the low beams are on. And the indicator bulb was dead before installing the LED so maybe that was/is the issue?? Hmmm. |

I painted black into the areas between my paddles, and then boasted that I have german stars.
WTF. People please know that if you have black paint on your 4 lug fuchs, you are dumb. It devalues them so hard! The fake fuchers rejoice. Rant over. Get a clue. If you are new, take note. If you have painted 4lug fuchs, fix it. The real ones are never painted. Paint is a flag that screams fake. Don't do that to yours. |

I painted up and installed these black arm things with a rubber strip on the end of them. I have no idea what they are used for. My wife seems to think they are required and she did point out all the other cars have them. So I put them back on. I think I have them on the correct sides. We have them here too, in the coachella valley. I think they are metronomes. However, that has not been proven. |

Took her for a 3.5 hr 115 mile roundtrip to pick up a shiny new muffler from Ben @mb911 . Sunny day, but about 50 degrees. Note to self-hook up the heat flappers.
