Took her for a 3.5 hr 115 mile roundtrip to pick up a shiny new muffler from Ben @mb911 . Sunny day, but about 50 degrees. Note to self-hook up the heat flappers.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) be cautious and if the exhaust/heat exchanger is older expect a leak into the cabin.

Everything is in good shape on the exchangers, I just never hooked up the flapper cables the last time I pulled them to do the lower valve adjustments. I rarely take the car out if it is under 65 degrees, so don't use the heat. This was an excuse to take a long drive (probably the longest in several years) before she goes away for the winter/messy roads.

I put the new plates on my 914 last night.

Attached Image

My Dad had these plates on various vehicles he owned for years. When he passed, they were on the SUV that I inherited from him. When I transferred the title, I could not keep the plates. So I kept checking with the DMV, waiting for them to be released and hoping somebody didn't beat me to them. The day they were available, I bought them. I had to wait until the registration came due on my car before I could pick them up.

Now they are on my car.

Thanks Dad.

Got parts from Bruce Stone to convert my 6 back to the original shifter. After a year of driving with the Rennshifter I just could not adjust to the look in my stock-appearing Six. So, I am doing what Jim Geer suggested when he assembled my car- going stock. Should have listened to him then.

That means a complete Rennshifter with approx. 5K miles on it will be available soon.

Installed my Winter engine lid, w/ rain tray.

During the hotter months I run the GT engine lid that Sergio makes, but no rain tray. It does run cooler.

This year added a new rain tray from 914Rubber, It was advertised as an Error because the textured surface should be inside. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

But I think it looks better that way. This rain tray is heavier material and fits better than my old stock, warped and cracked one.

@cali914 Hey Harry, How's that EcoBoost running? Yes, it is line of site, so yes. Occasionally it will lose site of the satellites but never more than 20 seconds. After 7 years I'm still startled when I look down and see I'm going "0"mph! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Drove the '74 for about a 1/2 hour today. First time since I put the stainless lines and new gas tank in. Ran like a champ and no gas smell. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

Then I put the rear glass into the '75. One step closer! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

'74, 2.0 all original, 24K miles.

My son (oldest, car guy, but not comfortable with the stick in the 914-2.0) and I wrung out the car for the first time since I rebuilt it.

Funny thing about Boston, when the Patriots are playing the roads are empty. Drove Around a few roads that are usually empty, now they are really empty. Went to a office parking lot and drifted around, raced through an office campus. Safe and Fun!

Oil Pressure light went on. Oil pressure gauge went to ZERO........YIKES

Turned car off Immediately

Expected to see a trail of oil behind the car. Nothing.

Looked underneath - Nothing, Whew!

Checked the Oil, Quart Down.

My youngest son - who is now away at school - outfitted the car with Fire-extinguishers, First Aid Kit and a quart of oil - smart kid.

Put the Quart in, checked the stick - tiny bit low, but the oil light is off and pressure is normal.

Drove back and added 1/2 quart.........purring like a tiger. Small tiger.....

Last couple of weekends I have been chasing a short on the gauges and the license plate lights. Discovered this issue on the drive up to WCR.
Pulled the fuse box down, pulled the dash apart, pulled the center console out and pulled the wires to the license plate lights.
Finally figured out the issue after cutting wires, looking at current diagrams and using my volt meter. Found that hot wire to defrost light in the center console was not connected and laying against the body and causing the short. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

It is now all back together and the lights are working again.

Adjusted rear brake venting clearance. I found the clearance on passenger outer pad virtually nil causing a bit of drag. I had noticed that wheel was a bit warm after a drive. I adjusted the venting clearance properly some time back - I'm not sure why the clearance was less now, I would have though it would increase over time due to pad wear. The rotor has only a negligible of runout as they all do.

Have had the car for 6 months. Been chasing a very lean idle. Put a tee at the MPS and read the vacuum at idle. 7.5. Then, I put my hand over the intake, allowing enough air in for it to keep running. Got the vacuum over 20 and it idled smooth. Vacuum leaks!!

Yesterday, I removed intake manifold. Discovered spacers for intake port gaskets are missing. Ordered new gaskets and connectors.

Buying stuff today to plug the holes on the manifold to test it for leaks.

Also, I trapped a mole in my yard. Not 914 related, but a minor victory for the day!!

Cleaned 8 relay boards and got ready for testing them. Resealing is the next step.
