Tightened header nuts and CV joint bolts on both cars today. Taking the '71 to a local C&C on Saturday just for 4 cylinder Porsches in old town Scottsdale...
Otherwise it will be a busy week as it is auction week here in the greater PHX area!! |

Since my LE is finally in the queue for paint I've been working on Steve's '71. Back in late spring I posted HERE about meeting a new owner and cleaning up a few DAPO issues finishing that post with "Next thing to sort out is fuel pump toggle switch hanging under the dash and slop in the shifter." That led down the slippery slope of "while we're in there".
Turns out the fuel pump circuit in the ECU was dead and @GaroldShaffer had a good used one. Replacement of the front shifter bushings stopped the popping out of 4th and some of the play but it was still a tail shifter with internal wear. Someone had the gearbox apart in the past as there were beads of RTV on the joints and a leak at the mainshaft. Looking thru my parts stash I had everything to do a side shift conversion except one part. (Thanks again to Garold) So when the cold weather got here we pulled it apart. Note to DAPO: this is what happens when you catch the seal during reassembly. With the engine out the area behind and below the bolted in angle iron battery tray had this hiding under fiberglass cloth. A new inner fender well, engine shelf, battery tray and support and rebuilding hell hole was next. Also ditched the firewall mounted ecu in favor of the original brackets. The engine had a few uglies too. At some point the engine was apart and the cyl heads installed on the wrong side requiring this custom access to the head temp sensor. The manifold gasket was cut from 3/16 rubber sheet and sealed with plenty of RTV. The fan housing and all the tin ended up coming off for cleaning and paint. The butchered upper tin and the 3 missing lower tins were replaced. A few more details and the engine's ready to go back in. And a pic of the car. |

Bought and assembled a HF 12-ton shop press. Used it to push out my rear hub bearing and install hub bearings in my son’s go kart project. It took a minute or less for each one. Wow! Where has this thing been all my life??!! me too.....That's (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) the last time I used it.... Matt (IMG:style_emoticons/default/flag.gif) |

Lots going on but finally epoxy primed my only narrow-bodied 914. Will apply paint next week. (Orange)
I recently purchased this Subaru EZ30 SIX from a local socal member. The plan is a light face lift, new interior and ENJOY. Very solid car (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) A bit later this spring swapping to 5 lug conversion since I already have all components and wheels. Oscar Before photo |

Tore down an axle for a CV repack and cleaned a bunch of rear suspension parts. Ordered new bearings and CV Schnorrs and a few other incidentals. The inner CV did not have any washers at all … CVs look bad. Pretty deep grooves in both inner and outer. Going to tear the other side down to see if I have double trouble before figuring out replacements.

4 cylinder C&C in old town Scottsdale on Saturday. Lots of interesting stuff- nice to see cars other than P cars every so often. I love old Alfas and the blue one was beautiful. Almost got a 2002 way back when I go the '71 914 so obviously love them as well... and the Renault R5 ain't bad either!!
Parked on a side street near was a 914 "E"- didn't see the driver - had some questions for him! |

Replaced worn out seal in sandwich plate for external oil cooler. Adjusted clutch cable and checked shifter linkage from recent install and put her back on the ground for the first time ( this year (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) )
