I washed, scaped, and persuaded the PO's Plasti Dip paint off. It took a few hours. Now I have a red car that looks much happier.

Took her to the Aircooled event in NJ, it was a bust for me, but a great shakedown for my new '75. Took a year+ to build a 2056 and get everything together (PO had dis assembled much of the car including engine/trans/brakes/interior/.... Just made it home after 770 miles, the only incident was on the way home I was hearing something rattling that kept getting worse, I was getting bounced around on the Pennsylvania highways and had to pull over. The drivers front caliper was about to fall off, being held on with one finger loose bolt. Lucky for me I pulled into the Lowes parking lot, bought a couple tools and a 12x 1.5 bolt and I was on my way. MPG when home averaged 31, I would say my average speed was in the 75 +/- range.
Major victory for me |

Finally a break in the house projects that have been going non-stop.
Pulled the car out for a good wash to start getting her pretty for all the pinky lifters at Luft in a couple weeks, managed to snap off the freaking passenger seat adjuster handle (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) Then got on to swapping the headlights out--I had H4's with LEDs 'retrofit' but was never really super satisfied with them, bought a set of Holley "RetroBright" LED lights and they seem pretty dang nice: Side by side comparison to the old H4's with the LED bulbs in them Then threw on a displacement badge for kicks, only badge on the whole car, (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) |

After months or research, I ordered and received an Eastwood 140 MIG welder. It seems to be perfectly optimized for welding sheet metal on a 914. I've been looking too and came across that. Can you say more? Looks to be best price ordering direct from Eastwood.com. |

Can we see a comparison of the light each throws ? @eric9144 http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act...t&id=852062 They're already swapped out so no side by side. I will say that the beam pattern seemed to be more focused and level compared to the retro fit bulb in the H4 housing. I also don't seem to have any issues with the High/Low beam switching and the Spoke LED driving lights, it all works as it should without any hacks. In terms of cost, yeah... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) I thought I was getting two for that price originally and had to begrudgingly order the second one when a single lamp showed up (IMG:style_emoticons/default/slap.gif) |

Spent money: Elephant Racing poly-bronze front suspension bushes (to match the rear trailing arm bushes) and monoball top strut mounts, plus Racetech tachometer to replace the lazy original. Time to get serious... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)

Thank you, recently I read through most of your build thread, about 30%. WOW, great story and I'm glad you didn't go with gray, Irish Green is one of my favorites. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving-girl.gif) |

Scraped off more of the side stripes with Porsche in a funky and hideous early 70's typestyle using a hairdryer and a plastic scraper. Of course that method also loosens any putty in the area and comes off as well. It was all going to get redone anyway, so no big loss.

Fun with Carbs....replacing o-rings, gaskets, floats, etc.
...and modified the throttle stop plate to accommodate the switch from Hex Bar to Chris's pulley setup. |

one of the last pieces to the restoration. There's other bits to do but, this is a big one for me. The rest are all minor things.
