Had a slight weep at one of the AN lines coming off the oil filter sandwich adapter.

Just enough to leave a few drips on the floor.

Took that apart, added some Teflon tape to the pipe threads, tightened it back up. every thing seems good now.

getting state Insp next week and I am ready for the drive to Okteenerfest.

Pulled the Frunk handle and noticed it pulled a little farther than it normally does. Frunk opened just fine, a closer look and noted the plastic cable housing broke. Have new cable and housing on the way from 914Rubber. Don't want to risk that not working!

Parts and machine work of the worn out RAT built eng 2170 back from The Machinist. Everything is done. Align board. Valve job, New valves on The HAM RAT heads, new high performance cam all the parts. Now to assemble the whole thing.

So i just installed the ford relay but what i don’t know is, from the pictures in the thread by Mark, i can’t tell if there are supposed to be 2 or 3 cables on the solenoid post?
on the stock set up there are 2, the one from the harness that is red and the black one from the battery. question is, do they both stay on there or not? i have the solenoid wired and connected just like he shows but what i can’t te from his pictures is if the red wire from the harness is removed or stays? i know the battery cable stays on along with the new wire from back side of the ford solenoid to that post.

I found two oddities when tearing down my 1.7 today- a piece of curved sheet metal tucked in between some fins on the head of cylinder 3, and a broken piece of casting around cylinder 4. Any idea what they are?

here is the current state of affairs
it shows the new relay with the 3 wires on the power in post of the stock solenoid,
1. big black battery cable +
2.
one wire from the ford solenoid, ans the one from the harness that is gray and red, comes in from the harness, i think it goes to the alternator ?

Hey Phil,

I think they’re 12ga. I mounted the solenoid on a piece of flat stock that I bent and drilled out, trying to keep heat away from it. Unfortunately the Chinese unit crapped out.

that sucks, where did you source the most recent one from? i have 3, one is an ebay purchase is a older used one but like new, USA product; the other 2 i have one of which is in the car now, is new, i got it from car quest, supposedly not chinese, will see, i also took a piece of angle stock and mounted it like you did. I have mine installed now but i used 14 gauge wire, so im going to make 2 new wires using 10 or 12 gauge but its hooked up and ready to drive. I am also going to clean up the _+terminal connector and the red wires that are pretty crappy looking, i might run a wire from terminal to a fuse box for those red ones to be fused with 20A fuses before running back up front, like seen in a similar post by another member.

Found it on eBay, the pic showed it to be made in US but the unit that arrived is of Mexican manufacture. That’s ok, lots of decent electrical stuff comes up north from there. I liked the fact that it comes with only one spade terminal and the factory wire slips right onto it.

And, yes, it works fine, the heat definitely roasted the other one, it would work but only after the dreaded raspberry/fart sound that a dying solenoid makes.

Developed a rough idle issue that ultimately would swing to nearly stall after coming back down from 2k+. Would only settle down if I blipped the throttle.

Coincidentally, in preparation to rebuild and install a set of 40IDFs, I read a handful of Weber carb books over the last month or so and learned a ton.

Figured the issue had to be with the idle circuit so remove jets and the idle adjustment needle and sprayed the passages out with carb cleaner. Then readjusted do best lean idle.

Was not sure what would happen. Drove it this evening and I think the engine is running smoother with more pull than it ever has.

That's pretty cool ...
