Still at it. I’m at 1500 grit now. The metal is almost white and my hands are so black. No one is ever going to see this stuff. DMSO time (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Resized one of my front sway bar drop links so both are the same (914) length.

Just clicked over 1,000 miles since my engine & tranny rebuild and now time to adjust the valves.

Pleasantly surprised at the power of the 2056 package and new EMPI Weber-clone 40mm carbs......123ignition dizzy, et al. Can't ever see wanting a six as this little 4-banger moves plenty fast for me. Carbs are dialed in and she's purring like a kitten at an 950rpm idle.

Finishing the used brown interior now and will soon get new brown carpeting in.

In love with my born-again 914.....

@Shivers We occasionally polished an aluminum motorcycle clutch cover or flywheel cover with a cloth wheel and a "rouge" (pinkish, solid, rectangular block that you pushed into the cloth wheel to "load it up"). This made the covers look like polished chrome! We hand held the cover with the cloth wheel on a bench grinder, but I bet it could be mounted on a hand held grinder...IIRC from my youth in the 70's. So do I! It's even more beautiful when in the shade, out of the sun, or in low sunlight. Go figure.

Steve -

We gotta get together before you head to Minnesota again - Rick and I need to drive our 914's down and buy you a nice lunch. Terri too if she wants to come along.

What a great pic the green yellow and dark red will be together!

When will you head north?

LONG list of small stuff, too much to list.

New LED headlight bulbs, aligned fog lights, installed sill plates & tons more. Rainy day but garage was nice 53 degrees.

All car needs now for Go & Show is new carpet, new spoiler to replace what NTB idiot destroyed when car was there for tire balance cause he hit the clutch for the brake and claimed the brake didn't work (LIE) and valve adjustment.

I've had lots of time to come up with a list of things I wanted to do to my car. Modify the shifter and linkage, add a hand throttle, 5 lugs and Bils all around, bigger brakes, GT flares and this work on the trans. Other than a couple little brackets and bolts all this work is done. Probably the best reason is I sent a picture of it to my 42 year old Nephew and he said the one word that made it all worth it. He said "Bitchen!".

Actually I think there will be a peak a boo view of the tail cone past the X-pipe and through the vents I punched through the valance (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bye1.gif)

Set up the angle for the eye bolts on the steering rack according to the specs from the manual.

Cobbled together a "jig" to set the angle ...
* Leveled the auxiliary/carrier bar in the vice referenced to the bench
* Mounted the rack
* Ran some M10 threaded rod through the eyelets
* Shimmed the rod to align it with the axis of the eyelet eye
* 3D printed a holder for one of those magnetic cubes that displays its current angle
* Put the cube in the holder and zeroed it to the bench
* Hung the holder/cube from the end of the rod - it is light, so no flex
* Adjusted the eyelet until the cube read 9 degrees below horizontal
* Done

It all worked out pretty smoothly and was good fun to figure out ...
