Picked up this... The final touch for the car after getting painted and the -6 conversion. I also found a NOS 911 RSR dead pedal.. I'll post pictures of that after class... |

Well, still working on my OT project (the Westy). Looks like my Mercedes CLK wheel deal has gone sour, so I took off the cheezy hub caps (that were on it when I purchased it), scrubbed the stock 14" steelies real good and painted them.
I was going to leave the hub caps off, but the Mrs said she liked them. I was missing one, they were 4-lug and cracked at the centers anyway, so I bought a new set of 5-luggers at Pep Boys. I had to drill out the centers on the fronts with a hole saw so the bearing grease caps wouldn't crack them at the centers. It'll have to do until I get my dream wheels. I guess they don't look too bad ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) Since I was in a spraying mood, and the weather was hot, I painted the exhaust system with some black high-heat BBQ paint (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) I drained the engine oil and refilled it with Castrol 20/50. The rear main seal isn't leaking as bad as it was ... just a small drop now, not a puddle like before. I plan to pull the engine and reseal everything down the road, just happy that I don't have to do it right now - got a week-long camping trip planned a week from now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) When I get back, I promise to work on the 'BB'. Still need to do some cosmetic things (install the rocker panels and repaint the side grilles), and a suspension re-bush and turbo tie-rod installation (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) |

Changed my oil. Had to go old school with my floor jack & stands. Have my 75 I am stripping on the lift (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) . Need to get that sucker out of the way. It no longer has a suspension so I need to figure a good way to transfer it to my trailer. It's hell hole is absolutely horrible. It does have good panels & a perfect front trunk. Well the whole front clip is good. Not sure I'll bother doing a full cut up on it. We'll see (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

This has been bugging me for a long time. Always thought they never finished the frunk.
I'll probably do another set with a little better materials now since I have the templates. ...maybe sew some Porsche patches on some overnight luggage and have a matching 914 luggage set. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ...reminds me I have to get that front seal. |

I agree about the unfinished trunk. I did the other part below the cowl area.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/bye1.gif) You getting back at it on that yellow 6 conversion? Bump your build thread! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) Yes, I am. Another couple of weeks preparing the body and thinking what I want done... then off to body shop to fix the problems. And lastly, back to restoring/refinishing individual parts. Since 10 years have passed, I was worried that I forgot so much about how everything went together. Several things have become apparent. 1) I did a good job bagging and labeling the parts. 2) In the past 10 years with the advent of cell phones with cameras, 914world has become completely full of a lot more photos and documentation of other projects so that even if I forget something, it will be easy to research and figure out. 3) Shop manuals and PetCD will come in handy once again. 4) Parts that were once NLA are now available from Porsche or are being lovingly reproduced by fellow members 5) I forgot I had a lot of stuff. For example, I went on a 2-day quest to find a source for the damn little metal grommets used on 914-6-GTs where the leather straps go through the door panel. In reinventory-ing my parts stash, I found a pair I had apparently purchased a while back and forgot about! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) 6) I could not find the brand new door outer handles and keys I purchased. I know I purchased them from Patrick Motorsports a couple of years ago. I called them. Their records show that I requested a quote, but never actually followed through and ordered them. Conclusion: I wasted 2-3 hours tearing apart my garage for parts I never actually had! 7) And most importantly... this is still the most popular smilie on 914world... Brake works fine, but rock was my backup while I tightened things up in the nice sunshine... Next on list is front headlight/hood alignment, Mahles installed, and newly recovered tartan seats going in. |

Yesterday got the new car off the trailer and in the shop, and upgraded the electrical service to my shop.
Today I'm running electrical for the two post lift.....and installing it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) Then I need to start on a covered storage area for cars, 4 in the shop is getting crowded. Jeff |
