(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/farm3.staticflickr.com-9714-1395028067.1.jpg) ... I don't even know what I'd tell a LEO if he pulled me over for running these. When I was a 914-kid (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I ran a stinger tip... took off from a light headed out of town into a wooded area. Hard (IMG:style_emoticons/default/evilgrin.gif) Loved to hear the exhaust echo through the trees. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/busted_cop.gif) pulled me over FOUR DAYS LATER. Asked about that particular episode and then said, "You need to put a muffler on this thing." (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) |

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/farm3.staticflickr.com-9714-1395028067.1.jpg) Decided to take a break from studying on Friday to become a hooligan for a day.. so I installed these again. I forgot how loud they were.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) the exhaust volume attracted the attention of an STI on a twisty road.. It's always fun to see them try to keep up on tight corners (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) Oh, and I reinstalled the stock banana muffler that evening.. I don't even know what I'd tell a LEO if he pulled me over for running these. I've never been pulled over for my Mega-Phones! |

Adjusted the valves. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/barf.gif)
Ended up replacing one of the #1 rocker shaft mounting studs after finding it was stripped. Got everything back together and took for a test drive (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) After just a few minutes, ticking got louder and louder (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) Turned around, coasted downhill with engine off when I could, parked and let it cool. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) Pulled passenger side valve cover to find #4 rocker assembly nuts off the studs and (thankfully) in the valve cover. Not sure what happened though I did have that assembly off so must not have tightened those nuts down properly (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) Anyway, now back together and running fine (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cheer.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) |

Spring time! Took the afternoon off to find some curvy hills to climb. Found what I was looking for nearby at Bald Peak. I've been in Portland eight years now and I still find ridiculous winding mountain roads to run practically in my backyard.
Wish I'd brought a picnic though. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) |

Getting ready to head out to the garage and do a ton of little things:
- finish shift rod bushing replacement - seal up selector rod and replace o-ring - seal up speedo angle drive - adjust valves - set timing and dwell - replace plugs and wires - check for vacuum leaks - if I'm diligent and lucky, go for a lovely SoCal evening drive (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Tomorrow I plan to replace front wheel bearings and of course, more driving. My 914 is new to me. Just acquired it from a guy who owned it for 30 years. I got a decent deal on it as it needs lots of little stuff. I have been doing that as time allows. I finally have a totally free weekend and plan to finish dialing in my 'teener!! Great site and community. Happy to be a part of it. Off to the garage! |

Lucky for you I'm finishing my coffee (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif)
Updated avatar, and if I can figure out the editor here... I'll add one more front shot and one of the day I picked it up. Shots make hood look wavy, but that must be a reflection. It's actually quite straight. early '74 2.0 - early gas tank and silver dot gauges. Originally Zambezi Green. PO painted it white sans sail panels. I actually like the color, but may replace the sail panels. At least he left the trim on for me. I rescued that pretty blue one up there ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ from Scooter's concentration camp/junkyard and hauled it 839 miles to a safe, undisclosed place in Memphis, Tn. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/first.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/first.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/first.gif)

Today I finally finished installing my LED (running, brake, turn signal) lights. Here is a video to see how they work.

Started it for the first time in months, since replacing the push rod tubes and seals, clutch, flywheel, front and rear brakes and brake lines, bushings , bearings, new.5 lug, new.tires and fuchs!
Even though my brake pedal is still soft because I think I am still leaking from the supply line at the m C. I coud not help but take it for a drive!!!! First run in 5-6 months and started in the first try! Idle warm at 900. Not bad for a d-jet. Alsw was my first.time setting.the valves so I was happy to hear it run so smooth! Still have to work out the brake issue, but I might give in and.let.the local porsche shop do it. I have to give props to PMB and Eric , Bruce Stone for helpimg.me with most of what i have. Oh, i forgot how much fun theae cars are to drive!!! Attached thumbnail(s) |

Today I flushed and bled my brake system, fixed a wonky wheel stud and wired in a fan switch for my radiator.
