I have been hearing all about this plastidip, so I figured I would try it out. Since my paint looked like crap anyway I didn't have much to lose and I think it turned out pretty nice for my first experience with it. Wow! This seems like it would be a handy way to "mock" up a paint scheme to see how it might look on the car. Specifically, if you wanted to use it on your rockers, wheels, bumpers, or other bits to try out LE scheme variations. I've personally been considering an LE scheme with Adriatic Blue instead of the Creamsicle scheme and no lettering. Obviously a lot of work between now and then, but keeping the car white means less repainting inside and keeping the original color. I really like the contrast of white Empi wheels with the white body instead of trim colored wheels, but since it isn't an LE I have room to fiddle with it. I've been undecided as well on whether to go with FG bumpers, or get the original ones rechromed. |

I like the 914 visualizer but it could use some more parts and stuff to be added, as well as some better source photos for the wheels and other bits. |

Can you mask off what you painted and paint additional graphics over it?
I used to construct RC gliders and would use something called MonoKote, a heat-shrink material, to cover the framework. While most other guys would overlay contemporary graphics (they looked nice, but boring to me), I would apply bright yellow flames cut from MonoKote across the leading edges and down the fuselages (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) |

Tried to start my p car yesterday after a long sleep. Then found out the batterie was drained (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) . So I put it on a charger for a few hours, and still nothing (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) .
So I tried to give it a boost...........then saw smoke coming from the engine bay. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) Turns out it's my alternator and a burnt wire. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) |

I like the 914 visualizer but it could use some more parts and stuff to be added, as well as some better source photos for the wheels and other bits. It has been around for a while, but I am just hearing about it I guess. I have heard a lot of people doing there wheels are having problems cause of the heat produced, the dip will start to peel after a couple thousand miles. The plastidip is a nice cheap alternative to spending thousands on paint when your not sure what color you want, and if you don't like it, simply peel it off. Although I am not sure how easy it will actually be to peel it, but I have heard that it easy as long as the plastidip was applied correctly(thick enough). Again with being applied correctly, I have seen people pressure wash their cars and not have it come off, but I am sure if the water hit a place where the plastidip had lifted, torn, etc it would peel right off. But in my opinion, for how cheap it is I'll take it, but overall I am very happy with how it turned out. |

The alternator went bad in the 6.. Turned out to be the original alternator, Bosch rivet tag and all. Looked gorgeous once it was done since they didn't sandblast the conversion coating off of the alternator body. I wish I had taken a picture of it before I installed it. It won't be seen again for a VERY long time. Had it rebuilt the same day (Friday) and had everything back running again Saturday morning. This was definitely one of the more miserable jobs on this car... I also took the time to clean and do a quick take apart, clean, and reassemble of the carbs while I had them off. I need to just bite the bullet and buy complete rebuild kits though, as a lot of the paper gaskets are starting to shrink.

I sold 2 of mine in the last week (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) . I'm down to 3 now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/evilgrin.gif) . Besides that I've been destinking my car from a dead animal. Fuchin mouse with a load of shit he stored in my heater tube (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) . Finally getting it cleared out but it's been a horrible smell for a good 6 weeks. Couldn't narrow down where it was coming from for anything. Finally had some fluid drip from under the long that tipped me off (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon8.gif) . Nasty but so glad I finally found it. My trip to WCR will be so much nicer without 9 hours of stench (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smoke.gif)

Something I should have done 15 yrs ago when I bought my lift.
N.Tool sent me a discount card, so ran on down and bought a 2000lb elec winch. Has 49 feet of cable. 64$ after the discount (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) Welded on two bits of angle and it bolts right on or off. Don't have to round up family members and the dog to roll the car up! Works great (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) Of course if I ever get the car running won't need it.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) I bought one of the cheepo HF 'portable' winches (has the bracket for attaching it to a trailer hitch ball) about 20 years ago. I've rigged it up on U-Haul trailers and have thought (several times) about making some sort of bracket allowing me to use it with the 4-post (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) . |
