I spent the last two nights cleaning up my rims. Original rims that haven't been cleaned in 12+ years. I was shocked at how well they looked. Wow, LINGO. Your wheels look great. I just gave my four-bolt Fuchs a cleaning too but they didn't come out looking that nice. I fear the anodizing is ruined on mine. What product did you use to clean yours? |

It' been long overdue; the speedo under reads actual speed by enough to get pulled over and warned. Packed up the speedo and sent to North Hollywood speedometer. After the speedo is out I marked off 1/100th mile on our street, that's like 52 feet and 9 /2 in
Then roll the car through the measured dist and count the number of revolutions the speedo cable makes; mine is 8. Attached thumbnail(s) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) I hope to get mine half as great looking! What's the secret? I'm ready to spend some elbow grease, but don't want to use the wrong products. |

Kathy and I drove them to Werks Reunion. Great day overall. Kathy fried her alternator on the way home but only a mile or so from the house. That could have been much worse as we were way out in Carmel Valley attempting to find the quickest route home as traffic was tight after the event. It sure would have sucked to break down 75 miles away from home. Great to see every one from 914world as well.

That could have been much worse as we were way out in Carmel Valley attempting to find the quickest route home as traffic was tight after the event. It sure would have sucked to break down 75 miles away from home. Great to see every one from 914world as well. So my day just got a whole lot better. I thought that I had an issue with Kathy's alternator as her car died close to home when returning from the Werks Reunion yesterday. We left the event at 4:30 and didn't get back until into San Jose until 7pm. Kathy's car died coming off the freeway and would not start back up. The starter would not even kick. I pushed her car to the side of the road. Thinking it was a hot start issue I pushed her and she started the car. It kept wanting to stall out and voltage was low. I drove it home keeping the revs up to keep it from stalling out. The volts kept dropping and the car started to putter and back fire as I pulled it into the garage at my house. The battery was dead. I charged the battery overnight. Assuming that the alternator was toast I started using the boards search function on changing the alternator. I even started pricing new Bosch alternators etc. One of the threads from the search said to also check the voltage regulator as it is cheaper and could also fail. Here is where the story gets much better.....The voltage regulator was not seated in it's socket all the way as only one of the two screws were in place and it was tilted backwards. I must have knocked it loose when wiping down the engine bay prior to Monterey. I pushed it in all the way and tested the charging system with a volt meter. All is good! I will buy and install the second small screw to hold in the voltage regulator today. I then will buy a lottery ticket as I am feeling lucky. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rocking nana.gif) |

I got a second Heuer stopwatch for the Dual dash set up. So now these are mounted where the radio was, and now I just have a hidden amp that goes form my iPod/ iPhone directly to the new speakers. So I finally get to listen to some music when I drive!
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i187.photobucket.com-14487-1408241505.1.jpg) I also had some damage to my front valance which was a piece of crap anyways, so I pulled the trigger on making a front splitter/spoiler air dam. I wanted the more vintage style one, so I am pretty happy with how it turned out. it does not hang much lower then the valence itself since its a road car. I was scheduled to meet the buyer of the '67 Bug this AM, but a set of circumstances kept him form showing up. I busted my a$$ to get out of bed and down there early - and for what? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) ... supposedly he'll be come this coming Tuesday afternoon - we'll see (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif)
Well, as the sun started to heat up the shop (no insulation), I decided to install my new 15K Kenmore air conditioner (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ... Oh boy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) Bad news. I pulled the plugs in my 2.7L to perform compression and leak-down tests, but only get 180° crank rotation (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) ... Looks like I gotta pull the heads (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) ... stuck valve? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stromberg.gif) |

Replaced my front motor mounts with the motor still in the car. What a PITA! Took about 3 hours, but I'm glad to have it done.
I saw in a thread here where someone suggested using a 1/4" drive socket wrench to fit in the tight spaces, and that proved to be the difference maker. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) Hopefully going for a drive this evening if it stops raining. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) |

Drove her home today. Not really cause home is still over 2500 miles away. I'll start that journey in about 2 days. It is really a nice 914.

put new seals on the front for the targa top.
that along with the new rubber on the top makes it a really snug fit now. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) slowly getting most of the rubber pieces replaced. oh yeah and I (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

Minor stuff on the 914 this weekend - just tidied-up some wiring and re-did the rollcage padding (with the proper SFI stuff.) I've also been hunting for a few more cool vintage decals but I'm pretty much done with that. Looking forward to the next POC event 9/6-7.
I also (very quickly!) seem to have found a buyer for the sweet 16" RSR Fuchs I've had in storage. I also swapped steering wheels and airbags on my taildragger, from the standard wheel to an optional padded sport wheel. I've never worked on modern cars much, definitely not airbags, but it was straightforward and I like the new wheel soooo much better. |
