Started tearing down the 2.7 today, got the head assembly off one side. Pulled the cylinders to see if I could reuse them.......not (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) one is a Mahle, the other two KS, all Alusil, all with nice gouges.....no wonder it was burning oil (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
Soooooo I guess I need new P/C.....there goes my rebuild budget!!! |

Decided to powdercoat instead a silver with gloss clear. Just coming out of final cure Good decision, the wheels look really nice (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/s24.postimg.org-11125-1410475166.1.jpg) Well, almost finished up with the front yard project. May not look like it was a big job from the pic, but it took my friend (Mark) and I 5 full days de-rooting (hate magnolia tree roots) and installing a new sprinkler system. We filled 6 35-gallon trash barrels with roots and installed a 4-zone sprinkler system with 18 heads. Wife is happy and this little honey-doo has earned me at least a couple of weeks to goof around with some automotive stuff (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mueba.gif) I'll eventually get another muffler tip for the banana, and I'll run a sheet metal screw to secure it next time (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) |

Got the other side taken apart today, seems all the pistons on this side were hitting the exhaust valves, no visible damage to the heads, but all three had small marks in the piston tops, also #6 has a broken ring, a chunk of piston missing and quite the gouge in the cylinder wall. Guess that's why it broke down at Parade. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blowup.gif)
Found most of the ring pieces, not sure where the chunk of piston went. Can't wait to see what I find when I split the case. |

Discovered my ignition switch is cracked.
(IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) Hopefully, it explains the starting problems I've been having. Don't know why I didn't think of it sooner. |

Started a 10 day staycation yesterday.
So yesterday, I finished the hose plumbing on my new 2 port fuel pump relocation. And sprayed some RustOleum on my new battery tray. Was about ready to drop in the gas tank when I decided to turn the outlet pipes on the tank 180 degrees. stripped one of the threads taking it off. Black stuff in the hell hole is seam sealer. Decided to add some to that flange lip. It got it painted later in the afternoon. Today I'll will be running new fuel pump wires in the tunnel from the back. PO had them under the car in a fuel hose. Been that way for ten years. Time to get it done right. Plus finish up prepping the 911 for tomorrows PCA AX at PIR in PDX. Just finishing up installing a Seines Shift Kit on it. That is a pretty cool gadget. |

yesterday I adjusted my valves and installed the red rear reflector and covered up the holes in the rear.
before picture after picture Today I fixed the gasket leak on the carbs and then tuned them in. Air leak was from when I had to replace fan because of me. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) My first time adjusting carbs, used the syncometer. AF running around 11 to 12 at idle arounf 1000 RPM. now to take it for a test (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) |

My neighbor Kim finally got his kart project running after working on it on and off for about 4 years. Moves pretty good with the little MAC motor (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)
I grabbed a sheet of foam out of my shed and made a temporary seat for it It looks just like the first kart one of my brothers gave me for Christmas when I was 10 or 11. Loads of fun (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Got my '73 restoration project running this afternoon for the first time during reassembly. Moved under its own power for the first time in 4 years!! Gotta get the rear suspension to settle some now...
BTW, I've got my old Simplex Challenger go-kart (which I got in 1961!) and recently found a rebuilt West Bend 580 just like it had way back when. Gonna restore the kart someday as well!! |

On staycation. Finally getting to play with my cars.
Stopped at the dealership to pickup a couple shift knob crush sleeves. Ran into Mark (914 Rubber). Had a good chat. 1st. I rehosed the fuel lines on the engine. Installed Chris's FI elbows. They are a thing of beauty. Hose to the regulator might be a tad short. 2nd. Rewiring the fuel pump. Built a taped up 2 wire cable to feed thru the tunnel. That's were I'll start this am. After I pickup the Nissan spindle nuts to tidy up the fuel tank threads. Plus stop a NAPA for more fuel line and fuel injection hose clamps. |

Gonna restore the kart someday as well!! Those old Karts are very cool but pricey! I just sold a basket case west bend 700 off a weed wacker for $300. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/screwy.gif) now i can buy like 5 brand new weed wackers (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) What did I do to the 914 today? Thought about driving it before the battery goes flat. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) |
