Pulled her out of the garage for the first time in over a year. Going to have it appraised this week now that I have been told I have her vastly underinsured. Updating vehicle info numbers on VIN registry. Can someone tell me where to find the chassis number and transmission number (if there is one).
I looked in all the places (couldn't see under the dash) the VIN page suggests-nothing. Karmann plate just has the paint code (15). 1970 914-6 03/70 build. |

I looked in all the places (couldn't see under the dash) the VIN page suggests-nothing. Karmann plate just has the paint code (15). 1970 914-6 03/70 build. Got a message about finding the chassis number and thought my reply would update here (guess that's why I'm listed as newbie...). Anyway, here it is. I'm just not having any luck finding it. Also, I've not heard anyone else mention the plate on the passenger headlight bucket (or is it assumed everyone knows about it..) VIN number is on windshield plate on driver's side, sticker on drivers door jam and stamped into the chassis above passenger wheel well. I also have a small aluminum plate attached to the passenger headlight bucket that has the VIN number stamped into it. The 914/6 designation is molded into the plate along with the vehicle weight limits. The only other stamped number on the plate is '102'. The Karmann badge is blank where the chassis number should be. No indication that anything was ever there. I also cannot find any number anywhere in the rear trunk. There is some rust along the far back (under the foam pad), but the center section is in near perfect shape with original paint. |

Here's blower fan videos I promised a couple weeks ago. Nice presentation, Cary. Thanks (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) I got my blower working last weekend, but now I need to get my lights working like you did, Cary. May need some advice and help doing that! Didn't work at all on my teener this weekend, but I did make space for it in my garage this weekend. I built an enclosed storage space for my Ghia at my in-laws on Maryland's Eastern Shore. This is the Ghia's new home, and hopefully I'll get more driving time with it down there anyway. My first 914 (aka the "Red Onion") should be happy as there's now space inside my garage at home when the snows come this winter. |

Took it out of the garage, and (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) took a nice ride up Hwy 50.

Beat Navy, forgot to tell you that Black/Blue wire came up from the center console wire bundle.
I did clean up the light sockets with one of my engine oil passage cleaning brushes. Don't know if it helped. Hopefully I'll improve my one handed video recording technique. LOL. |

Got the tranny back in. Just need to reinstall the shift linkage, fill the trans with fluid and then keep my fingers crossed that I now have the trans leaks as well as the main seal leaks fixed.

I wanted to build a 'lean-to' on the 12'x22' space on the back of my garage, but the city building & safety department won't allow it (there's a 7' set-back) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)
I'm gonna start looking for a 'C-Van' to park there instead ... it's not a permanent structure so the (appropriately-named) B&S dept. can't say shit about it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bootyshake.gif) |

The roof was already there attached to what my father-in-law affectionately calls his "snake shed" (because the first time he walked in there after buying the property he saw a big ol' blacksnake in the rafters. 15 years later he still checks the rafters before walking going inside.). I enclosed everything and put barn doors on it and some pea gravel on the ground. Should keep the Ghia dry during the winter. Good luck putting something in place for your shelter! I like your ghia Thank you, sir. It should get more love now that it doesn't have to compete with my teener on weekends. |

Bought another one... making sure it stays in the dawn patrol family. Looks like Dave's 1.8. Whatcha pay? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/first.gif) I'm glad someone grabbed that up and kept it local, I've been tight on $ lately or I'd have jumped all over it too! |

It was very much so a last minute/sudden decision. My dad has grown a specific fondness for the car over the last couple of days, and it sounds like we might turn it into his commuter car.. the MPG is much better than his pickup truck. The car could use paint, as the silver is pretty flat, but I think we may put that off for a while, and just install a few seals to keep the wind noise out, and let him drive it. There's a very good chance you;ll start seeing it in the GA parking lot Eric (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

I removed my side skirts and the old A/C hoses that were underneath! Fortunately my longs appear to be in great shape! There was a ton of dirt, rocks and road debris in there though. The dealer that installed the A/C really did a hack job putting it in. Typical quicky job to bump up the price I'm sure!
