(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/farm9.staticflickr.com-9714-1425438681.1.jpg) Went for a drive. Weather was absolutely gorgeous... That's a great picture and a beautiful car!!are those 7" wheels you're running? It looks like your rear fenders look pulled a bit. |

Nice pic, Ethan!!
Today I got some paint custom-blended and touched up a few small chips. No pix yet. Took the car to FinishMaster in Vista, CA and they used a portable scanner to analyze the car's paint and formulate a mixture for me. Very pleased with it! Web site, in case anyone else needs custom-formulated paint: (They have multiple locations throughout the U.S.) http://www.finishmaster.com/ |

Pulled my starter in and out many times, tested all my grounds, and still chasing a slow turn over issue... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sheeplove.gif) I've got the same problem. Let me know if you find an answer. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) Always starts but has you holding your breath. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Guys, before you go crazy and buy anything *really* expensive, try this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/tay-20308/overview/ Looks just like the original ground strap, high quality, low cost ($8.97). After 40 years the original ones are corroded and eventually they all need to be replaced. Not cleaned. REPLACED. This is the one under the trunk to the transmission. You'd be surprised how much help it does in grounding the engine/trans to the body. |

I've been acquiring parts for a little bit and I just found a clean roller. So, yesterday I removed the front suspension and rear suspension, built a dolly so I could move it around a little easier and scheduled my media blaster for Friday.
I think this makes # 11 but I just sold my 911 and I needed a replacement. |

My granddaughter
Backstory: with winter temperatures, I don't drive the 914 much since it has no heater. Last Wednesday, my wife and kids had to be at church early so I ended up driving the 914. Jaisa threw a fit when I wouldn't take her home in it. I told her as soon as the temperatures got warmer, we would go riding. Well... today hit 70F (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) So I picked her up. She chose "top off" mode and away we went (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/stromberg.gif)
The turn signal/wiper stalk assembly doesn't fit in the housing (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) ... Apparently it's from an earlier car. Comparing it to the one I removed, the wiper portion on the replacement unit is thicker. It looks like I can swap out the thicker wiper unit for the thinner one though. Wired-up and mounted the driver's side Blaupunkt (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ... ... then moved over to do the passenger side - (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stromberg.gif) I felt wet carpet (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) ... During the recent rain, we had a really nasty downpour for at least a good half hour, so apparently my targa-top seals aren't doing their job (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) Pulled the carpets, wiped up the water, then decided to check for rust. Yep - a few spots around the perimeter. Removed some of the tar until good painted metal was exposed. Cleaned up, vacuumed and wiped down again, then hit the rust with Rustoleum Rust Reformer (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) Came back an hour later and sprayed a second coat to catch what I missed the first time. I'll get the carpets back in and the other speaker in tomorrow ... then the steering column/switch housing & stalk, dash gauges and finally the steering wheel (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) After that, I get to tackle the rocker panels ... Is the length of the ground strap supplied by Summit Tracing (14 inches) sufficient for a '73 2.0l? Should be able to get one in the UK. Will let you know if it makes a difference next week. |

That part number on the website is TAY-20308. |

A common and quite correct braided ground strap is available at any FLAPS.

What a pain in the ass modifying the wiper switch stalk to fit. Had to cut, snip and file a bunch of plastic off of it, but finally got it to work out. Must have been from an earlier car (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)
Also, putting those windshield washer hoses back on the valve was a chore ... now I know why the PO left them disconnected. I couldn't install Tim's LED gauges after all (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) The 'BB' is a '75 and the modified gauges are early silver-dots, so the wiring is different. I reinstalled the '75 gauges, but they're now in an early metal dash panel. Problem - I must have reconnected some wire(s) incorrectly, because now when I turn the key on, I have a constant buzzer sound coming from under the dash and the red brake light is on constantly (except for when I use the turn signals ... then the brake light flashes) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) Oh well, I bolted the steering wheel on, all 4 speakers are connected and the stereo cranks (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) (so I don't hear the stupid buzzer). I fired it up and it passed the 'smoke test' fine, so took it for a little spin around town. Gonna have to get used to the smaller diameter wheel, but I like it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Since the lower dash panel was still off, I disassembled the air vent units and washed everything ... reassembled it and will reinstall it as well as the carpets on Friday. My back is killing me - time for medication (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smoke.gif) |
