I understand that larger boxes would cost a bunch. Check costs for USPS first-class mail. I don't think shipping a few small items in a padded envelope would be much at all. Contact Mark to see if they can ship in an envelope using that method (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Actually did work on the 914 today....

PO wanted his steering wheel back so he can install it on his new-to-him Miata.

Now to find something that fits the hub adapter...

Nope....I'm trying to find the nice wheel I had from my last 914 I owned 7 years ago, I could have sworn I kept it , just need to figure out where in the garage I stored it for safe keeping!

Worse case if I get desperate I'll grab a $30 wheel off of eBay.

That looks really nice. All those lights really brighten up the front, even when they're off! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif)

Forrest and I yanked my tank out (finally) and cleaned up the 42 year-old mess in there so we could install my front sway bar. I also hooked up my gas tank sender which had the wires sheared off and re-attachment was all but impossible with the tank in. It's nice to now have a working gas gauge.

I took it for a drive and it is quite nice for cornering. I wouldn't characterize it as "day and night," but it does make you want to go find some twistys. I suppose the road we drove up in San Simeon at the last WCR would have been a bit more enjoyable with the sway bar in. Rear bar goes in next.

Small paint job! ...
EDIT: here's a pic. Note the little hole in the middle of the floor, near the bulkhead. Under the hole, on the outside, there's now a 'bailer' like you find on a sailing dinghy: when you drive, the air going under the car 'sucks' the air and moist from under the spare wheel. Jags have a similar system.

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i211.photobucket.com-18384-1433515235.1.jpg)
Just an FYI, Mark (Mikey914 - aka 914rubber.com) makes & sells repro rubber drain nozzles for all those drain holes (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

Thanks!

Point is that 914Rubber beautifully made parts are eyewatering expensive to ship to Europe... according to the website, sending simple items like the pre mentioned rubbers will set me back more than $ 80.00 - for shipment alone. I am sure you can see why I'm not to happy with that.

If there's a way around that, I would certainly like to hear (read) it.

Menno

Here's what you do. You and your 914 buddies order everything you want from 914rubber in one large order + one round trip airline ticket. I will bring whatever we can fit in 2 suitcases. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Might want to read up on that rear bar. There are some pretty strong opinions on those. Also, are those SS braided brake lines? If so, you might want to read up on those as well. They're new, so no worries now but later............ (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

OK, it was last Friday...after WAY too long, I'm back on the road. Picked it from Mark at Original Customs...its a 72 with a used 73 1.7 and a De Bernardi enhanced side shift conversion...it shifts like butter! Now the fun begins...again.

BTW, I bought it in May of 72...brand new.

Very nice! I had a black 72 with a1.7 That was the car that got me hooked.

Worked on the "other" car today...sooner that one works the sooner I can do some real work on the 914...

Made a new adapter for my own personal use...Volvo Redblock to Ford T5 transmission, used some scrap material laying around. The 1st adapter I made I didn't use my brain and omitted the centering ring, not a good design at all.

Yep...

A bracket I made for my other car......I have endmills down to 1/8"(smaller now that I think about it) , but ideally larger such as 1/4" or bigger better since my spindle rpm isn't the highest.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) ... I was gonna say, save your time and money on the rear anti-sway bar set up - don't need it ... the front is all you'll ever need (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)

As for the S/S braided hoses, if they're DOT approved, you should be OK, but inspect them them often (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

Other than that - carry on ...

fabricated an antenna puller from an old house key.

When I bought the car, the radio did work, but there was no sound. I turned out to be the antenna: it was fully sunk. First attempt to pull it out failed. I had to reach inside the wheel arch to push it upwards.

I've fabricated a 'puller from an old house key and with a bench grinder and some tool it now works.

And the radio works. Pulling the antenna did the trick. First song I heared on the radio: Chicago's 25 or 6 to 4! How 70s can it be!

Tempting... but even more tempting is to get them myself. I've never been to the US West Coast! East Coast many times, but somehow the Continental Divide is too high for me to cross (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Man, it is sure nice to have a working gas gauge for the first time. The wires on the back of the gauge were flip-flopped and I got used to it not functioning.
