Found the spot I had inserted my big fat hand and dislodged the spade connector on the starter relay. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) I had prepared myself for some grand search but it revealed itself so quickly I had time to do Spring Cleaning in my garage. I know, a few months early but it really needed a good scrubbing, literally.

drove to work to day, 38 degrees at 6am! glad I have the new heated seats from 914rubber!! BUT several times this morning car hesitated on acceleration. has not done that for a long time- exactly a year ago, when I chased my tail to find a failing MPS and then a month later finally figured out distributor cap was bad. after replacing the cap and rotor I have not had a day where it didn't start or run perfect, so not an official pole but, what are your top 10 reasons for a 75 d-jet 914 to suddenly start to sputter , hesitate intermiitantly? I did just fill tank with ethanol free gas, it first did this a few days ago when I was toward the bottom of the tank, before filling it. SO.... my first thoughts 1. cap and/or rotor 2. points- nope I have hot spark module 3. FI trigger points - had this happen, put new ones in last year 4. plugs and wires - new last year 5. injectors - brand new 2 years ago NOS from Otto's venice 6. F.I. grounds - had this come loose once before - will double check later 7. fuel pressure- pefect 8. CHT- it was defective/out of spec resistance wise so replaced last year 9. MPS- could be, over 6 years ive had 3 fail, it may be time to rebuild one with my tangerine kit...... last one failed electronically and went SUPER LEAN no rich, so it actually would not start, unless you disconnected the vac hose from manifold , then it ran , very rich but ran 10. bad harness - nope brand new 2 years ago from Bowlsby 11. TPS - used to have that 3000rpm bucking, but replaced it with a NOS one from bruce stone and have never seen that since - last year other thoughts? bad fuel, fuel filters and lines yes replaced 1 year ago during my last fun episode of "chasing my tail trouble shooting the d-jet" episode. Have a great day ya'all! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif) |

After about ten years of building and adjusting to lost theft items, the car is finally on the down side for painting. Started stripping all the parts off the car in preparation for painting. should be done this afternoon, then the labor starts in preparation and sanding.

Well, my new 2056 is scheduled to be delivered to the local freight terminal later today (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ... so in preparation, I started fabricating a template for a rear engine mounting bar. This is what I came up with (so far) ...
I still need to determine exactly where and how to mount the side tubes - weld them directly to the bar, or weld the tubes to adjustable plates bolted to the bar (allowing for fine-adjustment) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) Even though this mock-up is in the '67, I decided to install the T4 motor in my '66 912, and the '68 912/616 motor will go into the '67 (after some underbelly repairs) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sawzall-smiley.gif) & (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welder.gif) Earlier in the day, I shot the [recently extended] J-pipes for the '68 616 motor with some of that 2000° BBQ paint. I promise to do some work on a 914 soon (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) |

I see you're already prepared for the impending oil change on it in the morning (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
I picked up the 'new' [to me] 2056 from FedEx this am. Got it over to the shop and hoisted it up onto an engine stand. That's about all ... |

There have been a lot of Type 1 to 4 conversions documented there. One very clever one using 7/8" turn buckle adjusters. No welding required. |

It is getting so brutally cold here that I had to winterize the car. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bruce.gif) I put the roof back on.

Yesterday morning pick up Thomas and his wife from their hotel. Then started to do the change oil/filter, adjust clutch, install speedo angle drive of the 73 1.7 they bought here in SoCal. Few nice 914 owners or member came to join us. Jim, Abe and Bob. And finally I was able to drive for the 1st time a 914-6 of Jim's car, a real blast car!!
Yesterday afternoon, the couple started their journey to check some SoCal places and drove to Vegas for their 1st nyt stop. And this morning they are currently in Arizona area. This couple will do a few days trip heading home to Ohio with their newly purchased 73. Take care always Thomas and Karah-Lyn! Enjoy and God bless your journey/trip! |

Excellent. I personally do not appreciate the BUBS and love to see these cars correctly converted to early bumpers.
Eric and his crew do very nice work. No surprise really if you know Eric and have seen his cars. Congratulations on having this work done. Your car is going to be a head turner. |
