Finished taking the 914 a part for future painting next year. Everything pulled and starting the initial sanding, chip repair, and build primer. Have some work to finish the sheetmetal around the front air/oil cooler; add hydraulic clutch, and a couple other small projects on the car.
Temperature around 50 degrees and raining; someone else will be applying the build primer, primer/sealer, and paint. Ten years and one theft later, the car is finally headed to the "podium" to be used next summer. |

. . . . more for the 914 than to the 914.
I ordered a new SA 2015 (Bell K.1 Pro) helmet. Now I will be legal to pass tech and go play on the track. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/MDB2.gif) Attached image(s) |

Why do they say helmets are only good for 5 years from the date first worn?

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Let's put it another way, Jason ... Alan and Bill each buy a new helmet. Alan wears his helmet almost every day on his motorcycle commute to work. Bill wears his helmet five times a year - to AX his car. Over the course of five years, Alan wears his helmet more than 300 times, whereas Bill only wears his helmet about 25 times in the same period. Besides the fact that Bill's helmet might smell nicer, it's been used minimally. Alan's helmet has been used 12x the amount of time, so why would both of their helmets be considered unsafe? Materials have a lifespan to be guaranteed over a term to be 100% effective. Laminates and adhesives degrade over time.

I have read that the Styrofoam liners can break down from body (hair) oil, but I typically strap on a clean head-wrap before inserting my head into a helmet.
Something I don't quite grasp is this: "Snell urges everyone to replace their Snell certified helmets routinely no later than five years after the helmet is first worn." What about this scenario: If a helmet manufactured in 2010 isn't put into use (not worn) until 2015 is it still no longer safe to wear? It's the "first worn" part of the statement doesn't make sense to me. I would be nice if they would elaborate. Where did you get the info, Mark? |

Every time I had a family member ask what I wanted for Christmas, I asked for a car part, tool or testing device. It seems today was a big day to close out one's Christmas shopping. All for the 914 so related, right? C.

I make the same requests for Christmas gifts every year and not once have I ever received a car related gift. Not even a screw driver. I no longer make any requests. It's never going to happen. I'm totally on my own when it comes to my hobbies.

Brought this gem home. Bought it from the original owner, with full service records. $800. Pretty minimal rust, all things considered. Been sitting 5 years. Had it running and took it for a drive in 1.5 hours. [attachmentid=530 588] Nice Score! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) Awesome. I thought I had a deal. I'll buy it from ya triple your money. 2400 |

While I'm letting the SPI epoxy cure for 24 hours on my rustoration. So I set about rebuilding the door straps on my white car.
Started with the right side. At the end of the day it still clicked a bit. Built new pin from a long 1/4" bolt, still clicks a tiny bit. Plan to cut a custom sized bolt with the die set so I can use a nylock nut to keep it tight. A couple threads say this does the trick. Both sides are getting new scrapers. http://shop.914rubber.com/914-outer-window...f-2-914ODS2.htm Both sides are getting new end caps. http://shop.914rubber.com/914-Late-door-en...ght-914LDEC.htm Drivers side is getting a new inner fuzzy. http://shop.914rubber.com/914-Inner-door-f...of-2-914IDF.htm |

Got the front turn signal housings ready to go in tomorrow, and finally took the tape off of the wring from when we painted the trunks. Time to get the car going.
