After a run up the coast to TJz, I worked on lowering the profile on my GT cap from a standing proud position above the hood to a hood slope profile position..... keep in mind, the tank doesn't move (down) and the filler neck doesn't move down easily either. So it was out with the cutoff wheels, goggles, and earmuffs......... and first torch off the cap-receiver portion of the GT cap set that was welded to the new filler neck tube, then lop off what is an estimate of what is needed to be removed from the filler neck.... but not too much... It is another work in progress Looks good (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Installed the Tangerine Racing oil relief valve, waxed it and put the cover back on. I'll go for a drive next weekend to see if I see a difference in oil pressure/temps. I started seeing low pressure (<1 bar) at idle with hot oil in the last year.

Started putting engine compartment back together this weekend after a strip down / clean up / paint job.
Found the main wiring harness had been cut at the firewall and butt spliced back together. Removed them all and soldered the connections back together with weather proof heat shrink. Also replaced a burnt ignition feed wire from the fuse panel to the engine wiring harness. Funny, Porsche never fused the wire from the battery. Cut off a broken hinge and mount off of the floor boards and replaced that with a donor one from a local car today too. Repaired the crappy grounding of my heater box level switch too. Removing year of half ass garage repairs from the car while I'm at it. |

Placed an order for a complete brake overhaul.
Bought some Empi 8 spokes two days ago. Started to prep them for polish and paint. Can't wait. Just a few things left and it'll (hopefully) be ready for a cruise. |

Routine maintenance.
Fixed an external door handle, installed a Pertronix (saved the points just in case) and figured out my head temp sensor was loose causing some weird running issues. Soon it is time for new tires. |

Removed the old dash and vinyl pad and started
to prep for the new dash to go on. Removal sucked, but wasn't as bad as I expected. Now I just have to wait till it is warm enough to apply the adhesive for the vinyl.... |

Son took the 914 down to Fort Clinch in Fernandina, FL for some pictures along the drive headed into the fort. It is an amazingly beautiful drive. Every March the Eight Flags Road Tour, part of the Amelia Island Concours, makes it way down this lane on their way to the fort for a tour. It is a three mile, tree lined lane that winds it way towards the beach... gorgeous! A few years ago, Mercedes filmed a commercial there with the new SLR and three original 300 SLs; two coupes and a SLR. Luckily, we were there and got some great pics. I will have to dig them up.
If you are in the area come Friday, March 11, around 10 AM-ish, make your way to the Fort Clinch entrance and enjoy a beautiful line of Concours competitors as they do with their cars what they were meant for... DRIVING! Then head to downtown Fernandina at lunch time for a free show of the Road Tour vehicles. It is a great time!!!!! I have a great picture of my son sitting with Sir Stirling Moss at the Fort as he was holding court and telling stories... PRICELESS! For that matter, if you are in the area, come on out to the Ritz on Saturday, the 12th, for the Cars and Coffee at the Concours. It is free for spectators! It will run from 9 AM to 1 PM. A great collection of "mere mortal" drivers from all over. I will have my '71 911T on the fairway. And you never know who you may run into. Last year I got to introduce my son and his friend (a BMW nut) to Brian Redman. Good chance that Hans J. Stuck (this year's Honoree) will be mingling among the cars. Come on out and enjoy. |

I do quite a few events with those guys. They "sort of" accept the 914. I have to keep showing them all the parts on the car that have VW logos. I really want to get a "VW Porsche" badge, but they are so expensive new and I can't find a used one. |
