And if anyone out there owns a 964, what the hell is a "Consumption Gauge"????? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) fuel consumption gauge.... Not part of the mechanical gauges but could belong to the trip computer if you donor had that? |

I installed my new triple-gauge the day before the Rt. 66 classic. A few hours before leaving, I realized that none of readouts were working. (Fuel / Oil Pressure / Oil Temp). Oh well, I know the engine would run cool in the weather, just top of the tank occasionally.
Turns out, on the back of the gauge. 'G' is not for 'ground', its German for 'sender'. The 'signal' indicator is ground, then + obviously. Thanks to an old thread, finally got that straightened out and all the bits are working perfectly now! DOH. |

Today? I unpacked the 914 from the RT66 trip and logged the mileage...
Five fuel stops totaling 55 gallons: First in Laguna Beach the night before the 5am departure, then Needles, then Flagstaff, then near Sedona and a refuel outside of Phoenix to get me back to the coast. All in, the trip mileage was 1588 miles to and from the coast. That averages 28.8 mpg. In addition, I consumed one half quart of 10W 40 metered into the fuel stops as needed to stay about 1/2QT high on the oil level. Not bad for a 2.2L with dual 40mm EMPI carbs, 2 Target Rain Hats ($2.35 ea) and an inverted concrete mixing tub ($5.00) for snow and rain proofing of the electricals,,,,,. And an irreverent and creative way to reuse the PORSCHE letters from my GT engine lid build completed just prior to departing on the RT66... Ummm... I found myself in a rust-induced frenzy and (apparently) got a bit carried away with the spot weld drill bit and cutoff wheel... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sawzall-smiley.gif)

That should indicate that I really don't give a (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stromberg.gif) about fuel consumption. So, that wire comes out of the harness.... |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) I really like how you set up your breather can and hoses. You have it set up as a catch can? What kind of breather is it? |

Couldn't find new fog light bulbs... You guys know the F'ing weird tab ones..... So check out this mod!! first I went to the Autozone (don't laugh) and got a set of Blaze driving lights for 30 bucks!! They are the N3619 light set. They are 4 inch lights that come with a crazy mounting set up but that's not important. What is important is that when the new lights are taken apart the bulb housing assembly is the exact dimensions as the factory hella light. Simply remove the mount ring holding the old lens assembly, pop out the wire holding snap things. Now take the new light assembly and install in the ring! Ok on to the old housing loosen the set screw holding the white wire and the ground wire. Cut the spade connector off the ground wire and pull the old wires through. Now the whole assembly can be put back together with your new bulb assembly. Connect the white to white and black to brown. Remount your fog assemblies and reinstall the grills. Done 30 bucks 1 hour and you now have halogen white light fog/driving lights!!
I'll try to figure out how to post a pic... Or 3 Attached thumbnail(s) |

Woke it up, fresh gas, set timing, and pulled it out of the garage for the first time in awhile! Still need to do some sorting, and bail it out of DMV back fee jail.

That is way cool. Thanks for sharing. I am using the pilot lights in my 75 backdate and they don't fit right.

That is way cool. Thanks for sharing. I am using the pilot lights in my 75 backdate and they don't fit right. I had a set of oval Pilot lights that had been on the shelf for years (originally bought them for my 96 Tacoma) ... installed them on the 'BB' a few years ago, with the non-foglight grilles ...(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-7300-1329958777.jpg) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-7300-1331351577.jpg) |

I fabbed and installed a battery cutoff switch which serves 2 purposes: 1) cutoff power while sitting in the garage. After reading about other 914's spontaneously shorting out and having little electrical fires, I thought cutting off the battery would be a good idea. And 2) slight thief deterrent. Better than nothing is what I figure.
