removed the alternator that I just installed after removing it to rebuild the wiring harness only to find out the short fried its little nuts. This after removing the engine and replacing one of the heads due to a blown timecert..... This AFTER installing the engine and tranny in the car. BTW, its easier to R&I the engine to get at the alternator than to do it twice in two days with the engine in the car..... the local hospital ran out of my blood type yesterday and the skin grafts are about to fall off due to scuffing
I cant wait to drive a 914 some day... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hissyfit.gif) On a more positive note, my pal Keith and i went out to interview the owner/ racer/mechanic (previously with Andial for 20+ years when they were in existence) to discuss a build approach on my 6 project motor / an 82 3.0 w/ 110K +/- on it with bad valve guides and more im sure??? included was the distributer, fan, alternator, flywheel, clutch (for a 911) wires and wiring harness bits. Dwayne will most likely get hired to tear it down to the tiniest pieces and then to measure and catalog the good, the bad, and the ugly and then, once we know what i have for my 1K investment, propose the build direction. He offered me over twice what i paid for it sight unseen so i am presently in it at the right starting point... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) It may have been a joke being played on me, but while we were in his spotless engine building section of his enormous shop, a huge German looking guy was scrubbing the floor to a surgical cleanness which left it a treacherously slippery surface to find one's self trying to cross.... Finally i get it. This is the slippery slope as many say this 911 pursuit really is..??? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) Attached image(s) |

Had my car taken to get exhaust work done. Next x, peddle cluster, brake lines and pads, clutch lines, fuel final config. Then engine management and dyno. Way to many more months...

I did the final bit of welding today. The drivers side now has a rust removed section welded in. The car is now a complete body again for the first time in 21 years. The inner seams were sealed and it's currently curing. Ready for primer / stone chip / primer tomorrow. Hopefully i will have the car rubbed down and in primer by the end of friday. What, no car pic's. And send along with some pic's of the Wales countryside! |

Bolted on the GT lid I fabricated, torqued the wheels and dropped the little beast down to tera firma. Going for a test ride... leaving the Browning Citori at home just in case of another negative roadside event... it is quite well ventilated as it is..

Stripped, cleaned, and painted the rain hats. Also got Tangerine oil catch can installed. Now I am thinking the orange is a bit much. Kind of looks like a pumpkin in there! I was thinking more like Skittles. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) |

Someone offered me $10,000.00 cash for mine today. Came up to the door of the house even. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/WTF.gif) Wonder if there is a scam going around. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) I mean seriously, who would pay that kind of money for a non-running 914. We all know what happens when a 914 sits for too long in one position (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) |

Busted the front shift cable bracket in the tunnel on a short drive. I just break stuff because it's easier than repair. Am presently working on breaking my oil cooler, but only a little bit at a time. The repair unfortunately will have to be done all at one time, but I will no doubt break something else first.
Now back to upgrades and repairs... Yawn. |

I took the front fenders, bonnet and windshield aperture back to bare metal on the outer skins. The underside of the front fenders have been epoxy primed around the repairs and the topped with stonechip.
Had a couple of neighbours stop by and chat. Both liking the progress, apparently it was a right shed when it was delivered. I've also taken a few pics, which I hadn't done before. As soon as I find the phone cable I will start a restore thread. |

i just wanted to start a thread to see what you guys do day to day on your cars. i'll start, about a month ago, i pulled my engine and trans to put in a new clutch. had the flywheel lightened and resurfaced. but what i didnt know is that i had to shim the little ball that the clutch arm rides on, after a resurfacing. so guess what i did today? yup, pulled the trans and put an extra washer under the ball. you have to goop up both washers to get it to seal because the threaded hole goes all the way thru to the inside of the trans. i also replaced the plastic cup that the ball rides in. the throwout bearing and its little plastic blocks were fine so i buttoned every thing back up. 5 hours total. i think this has been the cheapest repair yet on my car. $2.75 for the little plastic cup. what did you do to your 914 today? Getting closer to finalizing the front trunk work. Ran SS gas line through tunnel which allowed the tank to be put in place. All buttoned up now and looking good. If I only knew where all those pesky lines went from/to the charcoal canister. Waiting for delivery tomorrow of the heater hoses from the longs to the control boxes - then I'll be done. |

Had my local shop in sunset Beach install the new turbo tie rods. The steering is noticeably more solid; I like it ! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Navy- yes, Bahia red. I just put the turbo tie-rods on the '73 last week. Only driven it 10-15 miles since but feels great. Gotta love non-power steering!!

After a bare metal rub down of the outer shell this week i've put on the first coat of epoxy primer.
When it goes off i'll be able to see the dimples in the metal better and then sort them before high build/next coat of epoxy. Then it's off for paint. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) |
