Replaced thermostat with new one from Awsome Powdercoat. Now, the cooling system works as it should and the engine warms up much faster. You can see that old leaking thermostat failed in the fully open position. New t-stat below. Are those two slightly different; top one has 10 chambers and bottom one appears to have 12 ? |

De-greased 42 years of oil, road dirt and grime from my SS heat exchangers, while the engine is out of the car. Didn't know they were stainless. Who knew they were so shiny when clean. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

No turning back / I just ground off the motor mounts for the type 4 bars / Oil system make-up is this and next week.
The 6 will have sex with the 71 body after months of anticipation in two weeks if all goes well. Just wait Honey.... It will be worth it.... Rt66 is still on the radar and if it starts, runs, and the break-in goes ok as to seating rings, I will drive it balls out to our place in AZ as a summer test of the oil cooling system then join the motley crew in Idyllwild... Lots of moving parts now. Most of them... controllable with enough cash thrown at the solution... And Kent: I am fixin to be done with you smokin my type 4 and all the rest of them on the open road / and I don't care about snapped axles or sheared CV bolts. Bring that problem on. Sidebar: After the complexities of building a 911 carbed and cam-ed motor and cobbling together a respectable conversion, I am going back to what I know and can do in my sleep... I am buying acreage in Scottsdale for another outland home project. Heck. The outcome is a known quantity of fantastic views, weather, and security - unlike Cali now. The profit is guaranteed. And the sleepless nights are not based on BS parts scores in a back alley or swap meet trinkets secured FOR CASH LARMO somewhere. So tomorrow its back to the engine bay and engine mount welding. Jim, It is really just one chamber, different # of "pleats" to the accordion. The thermostat is rated at correct temp for type IV and it works as it should so far... |

Mounted the ext oil cooler- Will see if this is enough as I have a fan for it but haven't installed it yet. I know it's hot under there but less plumbing and plenty of space. Stu - looks like your oil lines run pretty much parallel with the head pipes. If you don't see a significant amount of cooling, you could install a heat shield above that section of the pipes, or wrap the pipes, or wrap the oil lines ... just a thought.Should help just getting some oil to circulate out of the engine... |

I know what you mean - the whole installation looks nice. Maybe you can get away with wrapping the head pipes then? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Spent about an hour sanding and prepping with 220 grit wet sandpaper my wiper arms for paint. I know, I could have bought new replacements for $40-ish a piece, but it beats watching the tube or listening to political BS plus I enjoyed it
