Replaced the steering shaft bearing - not too bad really, And a nice snug fit on new bearing - hope the new one lasts another 42 years- also hope I can drive it or at least ride in it at that point - hm, 90+ years young - anyone still out there in their 90's still tooling around in their 914? If so (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif) to ya!

Installed the turbo tie rod bits, the Bilstein front struts, the passenger side mirror, and took delivery of the Gates Green Stripe hose to start snaking around for the waterboxer. Thanks to Chris and Jim for the handoff getting the hose to me!

Shot more epoxy primer. Still have the inside of the cab, front trunk area and bottom side of floor pan left to do. I can see why quality paint work costs so much if you have it done.

Nolan and I drove it to dinner in the heat tonight. 85 degrees at 8pm in Los Gatos. Parked in front of this Lamborghini. I certainly did not want to slip off the clutch when backing up to parallel park. Seeing the cars together, I still like the 914 better. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

Haven't been there in years ... I guess I sleep in too late to hit the OC early enough to get a good parking space (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Took my speedo apart to fix the non working odo and tripcounter.
Works like a charm now, well at least when being run by the electric drill... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

Awesome. Must have been nice to drive at night with the top off.

I found a box of tin parts for the '71 that I had previously blasted a year or so ago, and they were starting to rust again. Took 'em to shop class on Tuesday and re-blasted them.
Been washing, drying and priming said parts since. Alternator brackets & shield, and a pair of under cylinder tins ... and a Honda Trail 50's wheel halves Front & rear targa top hardware and the oil cooler bracket have the final semi-gloss coats applied so far ... will try to finish up the rest of the parts tomorrow (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Feel lucky and stoked. Pulled off the rockers after 5 years and other than dirt, solid factory paint!

Started up my 1974 1.8 and watched gas pour out of the passenger injector...
My 1971 1.7 did this a few weeks ago and I guess it's not uncommon for the first run of the season. The 1971 stopped leaking on the next day. It's getting "new" injectors. I'll see what the 1974 does tomorrow. I have another 1974 1.8. It's impossible to have THREE leaking in one year, right? Paul |

I agree about liking the 914 better. The new cars just don't do it for me. Paul |

Went to the opening reception for The Cultivated Collector in New Canaan, CT. Next to this lambo, my Ravenna green car looks yellow!

Started up my 1974 1.8 and watched gas pour out of the passenger injector... "An ounce of prevention ..."My 1971 1.7 did this a few weeks ago and I guess it's not uncommon for the first run of the season. The 1971 stopped leaking on the next day. It's getting "new" injectors. I'll see what the 1974 does tomorrow. I have another 1974 1.8. It's impossible to have THREE leaking in one year, right? Paul Injector seals are quite inexpensive (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Today, I started consolidating & condensing all the parts I've collected for the 71's restoration, separating body parts from drive train parts, etc. Also doing this for all the 912 parts I've acquired - a daunting task |
