Started up my 1974 1.8 and watched gas pour out of the passenger injector... "An ounce of prevention ..."My 1971 1.7 did this a few weeks ago and I guess it's not uncommon for the first run of the season. The 1971 stopped leaking on the next day. It's getting "new" injectors. I'll see what the 1974 does tomorrow. I have another 1974 1.8. It's impossible to have THREE leaking in one year, right? Paul Injector seals are quite inexpensive (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) But I actually think it's the injector itself. When the gas runs through it, it frequently seals itself. I'll know tomorrow... Paul |

Since i couldn't make it to the breakfast yesterday i decided to get her out from under the car cover today and give her a good cleaning. The car has been sitting under the cover for 6 months and accumulated a large amount of mold since it had some water get in somewhere around Christmas. http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=303097 Got it all cleaned up and to my surprise she fired right up when i was done scrubbing. Took her for a 15 minute drive and all seems good (except i need to get the wheels balanced). (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) |

This past week I have got some help from my dad on a few projects.
Learned how to do a string alignment. Fixed a fuel starvation problem - issues with kinking lines under the tank. Valve adjust and oil change on the 914. Bled the brakes again and again and again (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Valve adjust on the -6 2.7 on the stand. Rebuilt the webers on the -6 engine Took the 914 out for its first test drive in many years. |

Drove it (first time in a while) . . . did the "Historic Triangle": Yorktown-Williamsburg-Jamestown and return. Need to do this more often. Heading for "the Southside" tomorrow.

Back at the hyd. clutch mod again today. Removed the pedal assembly and hit the floor with self-etching primer.
Found out the clutch pedal clevis for the Willwood's M/C threaded rod is a 5/16"-24tpi, which is different than the Honda's M/C M8-1.25mm that Kent originally installed. Ordered the clevis from McMaster-Carr. Did a cursory look around while I was underneath ... everything still looks good (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |

Started to strip my engine in readiness for the rebuild. Still searching for 1 piece of vynil to finish recovering the back pad! Only thing stopping the interior reinstallation.

WCR is only 23 days away. Got started on my list of prep work...mostly fixing things that broke during Rt66.
Removed flex dam and installed stock front valance to help with cooling Removed both front shock spanner nuts and re-torqued using blue locktite. The left side came loose during Rt 66. The right side was not as tight as I would have liked it. Rechecked all front suspension hardware while I was there. Installed Ford starter solenoid using the Mark Henry method (thanks Mark) Ordered new rear tires...left rear had a flat spot from a spin during my last DE and the rumble was annoying during long highway drive to Rt 66 Removed lower dash pad in preparation for replacing the ignition switch. Have not been able to isolate the intermittent start issue...hoping to find a cracked switch. Started fab'ing adapter plates to replace the K&N type air filters with Honda Gold Wing air boxes. Left side is rough cut and fit checked good. I'll do a separate write-up on this with pictures when complete. Still needed is; finish installing GW air boxes, replace ignition switch, adjust valves, replace breather hoses (going to tie the 2 head breathers together and run only the oil filler stand breather hose to the air box), adjust the targa top to address hellacious squeak and detail. Workie workie Mike....get her running and I would nominate you for the Iron Ass award in abstentia. That strut fix I wish I had recorded. It almost seemed liked 5 guys picked up the car and fixed it in 5 minutes. The only thing I remember many that was like that is when Rich and Mark finished Jaime's back fender in the parking lot at the WCR in 2015. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/first.gif) Welcome to the madness. |
