Hit two shows today...
Caffeine and Carburetors in New Canaan, CT. An insane event with hundreds of Porsches of all vintages, Ferraris, Paganis, and pretty much every sportscar you can think of. The entire Main Street was transformed into "Porsche Alley", including 4 914s. And.. went to the air-cooled event in Flanders. Half a dozen 914s and too many VWs to count. |

Those gatherings above look awesome.
I just managed to finish painting the tinware and valve covers before it rained. Bought some dark grey caliper paint but that will have to wait as the house now stinks enough! I also replaced the studs in the case that the gearbox slides onto for longer ones. 10.8 high tensile should be ok for that. More tomorrow |

Took the '73 out for a ride tonight, and to fill it with gas, and as I left the house the rear view mirror fell off!! Luckily I caught it- now have to figure out best way to stick it back up! I'm sure the hot dry AZ heat eventually dried out the glue.

Adjusted the valves on the White 2.0 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) which is quickly becoming an Orphan. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif) I never drive that car anymore. Now I remember why I converted to Subaru on the black car. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Rolled out the '70 -6 conversion for a wash. Its maybe 95% done and drives nicely. I have to level the eyelids, paint and wire the horn butterfly, add the deck lid grill (and have another grill to modify to a GT lid), needs carpet, weld the clutch tube, I have heat exchangers and am gathering parts to add these, on an on. But did I say it drives nicely in the meantime? |

Finally managed to locate (thanks, George!) and install the engine lid torsion bars. No more holding it open with a 2 by 10 block of wood just to check the oil in the Subaru swap!

I installed the engine lid seal from 914Rubber. A paint stick helps push it in place when your thumb gets sore. You have to cut it to length and this time I got lucky. I was about 1/4" short when I did this on the '72 some time back. Its better to cut it a bit long and then just trim it little by little.
Closing the lid pulls a short section of rubber off the metal seam even tho I have the lid as far to the rear as I can without scratching the trunk lid. I'll leave it for today and check it tomorrow. I may have to somehow trim the rubber. And I just may leave the grill off. Surely it will improve airflow (okayyy...) and it makes it easy to retrieve tools left in the engine bay before blasting off on a test drive. (The more I post the less time I have to spend out in the 97F heat! Its a hot one today.) |

Baby steps in replacing the center tunnel which will also be the carrier for my radiator hoses and fuel lines besides being stronger that the original once it's welded to the new floor along with some other support bracing.

I had help tonight so the boy & i put the tranny back in. I mocked up one side with carb so i could fit the coil in position so as not to clash.
I'm out on my mtb sunday morning so hoping to have the engine running in the afternoon. That will be the first time in 22 years!! |

I once thought of doing something similar to this. One of my brainstorming ideas was to get a mid mounted radiator, while using the center tunnel as ram air from the front bumper.

Thanks for reminding me, Mike ... I stuck the 'BB's custom-tailored car cover on the Ghia after I washed it a month ago. It fits, but not perfect, so I ordered a custom-tailored cover for the Ghia this morning ... so the 'BB' can have it's own cover back (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

The grille will more than fill that gap. [/quote] Hmm, thanks for the heads up. I have an extra grill for a GT type lid, so I have some more work to do. I know the feeling when the trunk lid and engine lid collide... |
