Today Pioneer Leather made a House call to refinish my leather GTS Le Mans Driver seat. Fun to watch how they refinish leather and learned a few tricks when cleaning upholstery. The tech first cleaned all the dirt and grim with a 1:1 solution of isopropyl and ammonia. The grime just flowed out. He applied the cleaner with a spray bottle and gently worked the leather with a Mr Clean Magic Eraser; then mopped up with a microfiber towl. After cleaning and drying, he sprayed the dye on. Very, very nice Jim. You always make a beautiful 914 look better than the last time I saw it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

Finished figuring out the twin carb linkage and fitted that. Gave it a bit of a review on the drive. It's loud!
Ordered the cable bracket from mark. Took off the last rear caliper in readiness to refurbish them both. Realised I actually like the look of the steel wheels and may keep them instead of the Riviera's that have. Although one steel is wider than the others so will need to find another to match. |

Hell hole rust repair complete. New engine tinware all but completed. Completely new engine mounts fabricated and installed. 2.8 L reverse rotation Corvair engine installed (again). Throttle linkage fabricated. Can nearly see the light at the end of the tunnel. Hope to be driving it this time next month. When you change the engine's rotation, do you install the pistons 180° from normal? |

When you change the engine's rotation, do you install the pistons 180° from normal?I researched this years ago when contemplating building an Abarth clone based on a Fiat 600. The 850 motor is essentially the same but reverse rotates, so you have to convert it when mating to a 600 transaxle. You need a reverse rotation camshaft, and ideally the pistons should be turned so the thrust angles are correct. Many people in the Fiat world don’t turn the pistons and get by that way, but wear is increased. |

Bought a media blaster kit to hook up to my pressure washer....
I am using baking soda for the media.... 1st test and it works pretty darn good, just messy (more so the water spraying back at me ) I'll have to fix that! There was a lot more build up between the webs before I gave it a blast. Just plain water out of the gun didn't do squat. |

Looks good, Mike. Which pressure washer and blaster kit did you get? At 1st it didn't suck up the soda very well, once I added some tape to the where the water wand hooks up to, it made a huge improvement since it works on venturi principle Cheap Lowes gas pressure washer, 2600psi and 2.6gpm. In reply to euro911 and Arne - I suppose turning the pistons 180 deg so the little end thrust is correct for the reverse direction would make sense. I did not build this engine so don't know if that was done or not.

As long as I was cleaning Mike's (Warpig) gearbox and the jet washer was fired up, I started washing Mark's (Mikey914) gearbox too. It will need a little screwdriver work before it gets another wash.
My 73 Appearance Group daily driver sprang a leak Saturday night................. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) So I jacked her up and popped off the right valve cover. Hmmm. It started at WCR, but wasn't enough for me to locate. It's interesting that my misalignment took 4000 miles to start leaking. |

I also got Mark and Matt the dimensions for the frunk channel repair sections. I'm asking that they get created in 36 inch pieces.
To get a nice and tidy repair you'll need to purchase or borrow a set of these. https://www.harborfreight.com/metal-shrinke...-set-68897.html |
