Yes it is missing the little black cover for the tail shifter mechanism, but I kind of figured it was on a lift and still being built. Regardless, it is sweet. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif)

He lowered his reserve. I guess he figures $30,000 is enough profit

I wonder if the buyer is here in the US? BTW, did we ever see any pictures of the underneath? Without those, I would not have bid that high.

I disagree, without putting my Eyes & Hands on it, I think it was a High 20's car, maybe $30k. There was too much wrong with it

If it sells for $44K, then in that time and market, it's a $44K car. The market might be different in the future but the price is the price.

It is a good looking car I agree. The blue looks good.
It's not 100% though.
A paint job, carpet and seats only cost so much. (must of ran out of money for a new dash)
Biggest varible would be the price he paid for it.
So I'm sure he made a good profit. Good for him.
And I'm sure the new owner will enjoy it also.

I understand your point that it was a $44k car to whoever bought when it Sold, but the point I was making was that it is not that easy to say it would bring that Price "all day long". If it were, then with the items that were incorrect fixed it would have brought $10k more - I don't think so.

I'm glad that it got great money don't get me wrong. If nothing else, it makes a stronger point for my Car

I agree that if the people bidding on the car were as knowledgeable as you and many others on this site, it probably would have never gone as high.

My response was based on the comment by XS Performance "$30K profit" which places the value at $14000. Do I think it was worth $44K......no. Do I think at $14K less it would sell all day long at $30K..yes. Just my opinion for what it's worth.
Best

Doesn't matter! Some fool paid 14 grand more than it's worth. They'll probably sell it in the Fatherland for even more money.

That's the name of the game - Free Enterprise. I don't like it because it raises the bar for me, since I'm looking for one. But, it IS a function of supply/demand/stupidity.

I'll throw one more opinion in, fwiw. Would "I" pay that much for this car? No. Having looked for a long time and recently purchased a genuine -6 for considerably less, and one that will need some relatively minor work (and $$) to get where I want it to be, there will always be unpleasant surprises and you will always be underwater on a resto. That is the price of entry to the resto game. Good for the guy who sold it (assuming it wasn't fraud), and I hope the guy who bought it is happy, too. Good bones and solid knowledge of each car's history is the key to these cars. Numbers matching is nice for a top-tier car, but I can tell you that a peppier engine makes these cars a ton more fun to drive. How I long for my previous -6, for which I paid $5500 in top, original condition back in 1977.

Well..I bought a 1970 "6" back in 1973 used and paid $4K. Ginther suspension, teflon bushings, 22mm sway bars, Ansa exhaust. I paid $40K for my current six three years ago. I have learned one thing..spend more and buy the right car FINISHED or the well is very deep!!

THAT, is a very true statement. Unfortunately, the number of available specimens continues to dwindle. Nobody questions somebody buying a basket-case 904, 906, or 917 for big bucks these days.
