I'm curious, what do people think? Is the 914 going to rule the lowest (under 350 points) category? A stock 944 Turbo, 924S, 924 Turbo, 944S, 928S, early 911s, 74-75 911 Carrera will also be in that category. Will any of these cars be competitive against a 914.

The stock 914-6 with 400 base points seems to have been particularly screwed. The 914-2L has 300 base points.

Is this points system used elsewhere? Can we look at another region's AX results and figure out which cars will rule each class?

Do people even care about classes or is everybody essentially racing against themself?

Here's the website for the new rules proposal. You can fill out a form for your car and all of it's modifications and see where you are:

http://sandbox.visualproduce.com/rulcomm_c...s/web/index.php

I am fully in favor of the new rules. Right now there are so many classes that for most people there are only 2 or maybe 3 people in a class. With these new rules, there would be an average of closer to 15 people per class. Should be very good for competition.

Also, you are only penalized for modifications that you have. Under the current rules, a single modification can put you into a highly advanced class. It is fine if you start with a stock car and plan your mods accordingly, but if you buy a car that has been modified in any way, you could end up in race car oriented classes.

If you support the new rules proposal, please e-mail members of the rules committee. They will be deciding on whether these new rules will go into effect at a meeting on Oct 2. Your feedback is very important. The decision will be highly influenced on whether they believe that most people support the new rules or not.

Yes 2005. They spoke about it at the driver's meeting during the August Alameda AX.

Demick slipped in ahead of me. Thanks for the link. It seems like GGR should be promoting the rule change more on the web site. If you go to the "Autocross" page on the web site there's no obvious mention of the proposed rule changes.

I tried to attach the PDF here but the site bombs out when I attach a PDF.

445 points!

god, those wheels and that header kick my ass...

i don't understand what the drawback would be with these changes. i like the idea of racing against 944's or 911's, etc. i like the idea of 10 people in a class instead of 2. and a little competition is healthy.

a couple weird things i'm noticing (though i'm still in favor)

spring and sway bar limits are gone. now it's just "stock" or "non-stock". seems to me that there would be a big difference in non-stock 140's vs. non-stock 300's; or a non-stock 19mm bar vs. a non-stock 30+ mm bar.

but it's cool that falken azeni's don't add points... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

can't wait...

My car weighs in at 710 points, which puts me in AX6.

This seems like it will be a very good and competetive class to be in. Already there are 17 people in AX6. If the rules get adopted, I wouldn't be surprised if 30-40 people end up in that class. That would be great to be in a series points competition with that many people!

Andy, for AX you start off with 275 base points. Note one column for Time Trial and the other for Autocross.

I still think the stock 914-6 has gotten screwed with 400 base points.

The 912E seems like a bargain at 125 base points. There's a lot of room for lots of mods while still keeping it under 350 or 400.
