You have to look on the engine.. By the oil fill neck on the front of the engine it should say GA if its a 2.0.
Do you have pics of your engine? We could also tell from that... |

its not a 2.0, its either a 1.7 or 1.8, we have been told its a 1.8.

Carfaxes are only good down to 1981, so no 914s will come up.
1973 had a 1.7 or a 2.0. The ENGINE serial number will tell ya.....but an easy way is to look at the intake where it bolts to the head. Four bolts, one on each side and two in the middle is a 1.7. Three bolts....with only ONE in the middle is the 2.0.... 1.8s came in the 74-75 model years....but THAT DOES NOT mean that someone swapped a 1.8 in there. Take a pic and post it or read the serial number and post that.... |

If it's a '73, it will be a 1.7 unless someone has done an engine change. Engine stamping will begin with EA or EB. This will be on the case rib, pass side, near the flywheel (under all the FI stuff and dirt/grease).

If it's a '73, it's either a 1.7 or that engine isn't original to the car. No big surprise there, really, but if they swapped engines, there's no telling what else was swapped. A 1.8 should have L-Jet on it, not D-Jet. The easiest way to tell the difference there would be to see if there's a plug on the distributor other than the single green wire to the coil. If there is, it's D-Jet, and it's most likely a 1.7. If there isn't, it's L-Jet.
Unless you have carbs, too... |
