rear bearing install, busted one Options

here's what i did.

removed everything from the trailing arm hole (stub axle, bearing, hub)
4 bolt hub redrilled for 5 lug
got new rear bearings, freeze over night.
after bearing was frozen, i was able to push it right into the trailing arm (no hammering)

then i used the pull method described in the pelican howto. with the threaded bolt and two nuts pulling on the inner race and the hub together.

well, the outside race on the inside came off, revealing the bb's and stuff.

my question is, after i get another bearing (ouch, wallet) should i put it on the hub FIRST, then freeze the hub/bearingcover/bearing combo overnight and then just push the thing into the trailing arm.

opinions?

ps. following the pp article, i was able to perform this task on the driver side, its the passenger side thats giving me trouble (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ar15.gif)

Forget the threaded rod crap. (not your fault) Here's Ben's consise version of the procedure:

1) Freeze your bearing
2) run, don't walk from freezer and quickly slide bearing home.
3) install 4-bolt bearing retainer
4) Put stub axle in from back by hand
5) Put hub in from front by hand
6) Wiggle hub and stub until they mesh
7) Stub will poke through hub just enough to get castle nut started UPSIDE-DOWN
8) Tighten upside-down castle-nut to draw hub and stub together.
9) When enough threads are showing turn nut over so it's right-side up and finish tightening.

Bearing won't come apart this way because you squeeze it from both sides, effectively holding it together as you draw the hub and stub into place.
