I got my new Vidsonix 3.5 speakers.
As they were in the mail, I started on the back pad and speaker bosses.

I got the drivers side speakers mounted. I am thinking of covering the back pad shell with Perlon felt. It will look a lot better at that point.

As the 3.5" speakers were in the mail, I also put together an 8" Sub woofer for the passenger foot rest. I had some old amps laying around so I used the 110 W for the Sub and a 50 W RMS X2 Alpine to power a set of 6.5" Alpine S component speakers up front. The tweeters are in the "A" pillars. That alone was a huge improvement.

Originally, I was only powering the component speakers with the 22 W RMS head unit.

Now the rear speakers will be powered with only the 22 w from the head unit.
That is more than enough.

I cheated and hooked up the drivers side rear speakers and had a listen.
Wow, I didn't think a 914 could sound so good.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) Beautiful.

This is the best sound solution I've seen so far. I might use your idea myself.

That might actually be something that could be put into production by some of our uphostery vendors as an optional accessory. Would go nicely with front kicker panel speakers!

I agree Appearance and Performance could have an optional speaker boss added to their existing FG back pad. I made basically what they are selling now. It would not take a large new mold, just scab on the boss. Or it is not that hard of a DIY project with their back pad.

Here is a view of the front set up.
Come to think of it, in the end I will have 9 speakers in the car.
Yes, the 6.5 kicker panel speaker is the start of getting real sound in the car.
I took it one step farther and made A pillars for the component tweeters.
I have revamped a new plug to angle the tweeters back a little more but have not gotten around to making a new mold yet.
I need to look into something other than CF to make it affordable. Something as visible as an A pillars, I would rather be looking at vinyl rather than ABS or painted FG.

Made some more progress.
The bottom cutouts are for the Suby ECU and fuse box.
