Ok, so maybe many of you have done it before..... but this past weekend, I buried the needle at 120 mph on a stretch of road.
It was cool (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) Strange thing though..... later in the evening, I took the Acura on the same stretch of road, and only got to 105 mph before I had to start slowing down. The acura is rated at 165 HP..... what does that say about the teener? Any guesses? |

About 10 years ago, I put some 100+k miles on a daily driver 914 I had. When it reached 200,000 miles, I was prepared, pulled over, took a picture of the 914. Then hoped back in and took a picture of the 914 going 120mph. Pretty cool! Fun huh? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

QUOTE(ninefourteener @ Oct 12 2004, 11:38 AM) The acura is rated at 165 HP..... what does that say about the teener? Any guesses? Smaller than stock diameter tires? My speedo is a WAG (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

w/out the tire calculator at my finger tips i'd guess that you'd be only 5-10 mph less than indicated with 60-series tires.
nevertheless, that's fast for a 914. i've seen 155mph (NOT in a teener), that felt pretty quick... n |

Matt, I run 205/50's and my speedo reads only 6mph too fast. A 60 should be close on.

205/60-15 is REALLY close to stock diameter. My car is within 1 MPH @ 75 Miles per hour. I am justifying this witha one of them "sleeping Policeman" radar sign things. You know the "your speed is" and it displays it.
Best I did was 105 with the stock 1.7L 4200 RPM Maybe coulda squeezed more out but ran out of road. Can't wait to get the 2.0L in there and open it up. |

FWIW, I am running 205/60-15, and was curious b/c according to my odometer I was getting higher mpg's than I should have been. I took a GPS and went for a drive, and found that my speedo reads approx 4 mph fast. I've played with the tire size calculator on this board, and it gives roughly the same margin of error...

Now that I have 205/50's speedo is off ~ 9% that said, I had it over 115 and still pulling with my 1.8L. I think it likes the lower gear from smaller tire. @ 115 it was pushing 5K on tach but felt like it still wanted more.
Scary part is... didn't even feel that fast, these cars are still rock solid even > 100. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) |

Going 120 in a teener feels completely diff than 120 in a 944 turbo...
not saying that i've gone 120 in the 914 though. Tried once, hit about 95 before I decided I didnt want to try any more.... That was before the v8..... Andrew |

I was driving back from Vega recently and got really tired of this Integra riding mine and everyone else's bumper, so I pulled over to the side of the road to take off the top - no fun cruising at high speeds with the top on.
It wasn't long before I was in his rear-view mirror & there he was right on someones bumper at 80mph. As tempting as it was to ride his I gave him some space and waited for the other car to move to the right lane - then I closed the gap. He wouldn't move over & he couldn't pull away from me. Once we were out of traffic completely and I could pass him on the right side - he pulls over to the right. Once I was past him he pulls back over into the left lane to follow me. Not today! I just pulled away from him in 5th gear until he was a blur. I didn't even watch the speed - just the road & the mirror. Then later there was this Mustang GT . . . God I love these 914's. Enjoy! |

I enjoyed 115 in the 914/6 on some freeway stretches in Missouri... that was hand-held GPS verified. I learned long ago never to show *certain* people my GPS after a trip. (It tells on ya... max speed, average speed, etc...)

i cant wait till i get the suby engine running, i cant wait to see what the car will do with 170 hp and about 180 fp with a redline ( rev limit ) of 7500 rpm. i mean i had it to 110 with the roof off when the 1.8 was in it.
if i did a WAG i would assume somewhere north of 140 mph. but i do plan on doing it once just to find out. scott |
