I have an amazing story to tell all of you!
Several weeks ago I was visiting Garold and helping him chop up a couple parts cars.
Garold had just pulled most of the useful parts off of a plain Jane 1971 914/4 it was an irish green car with no options not even the roll bar vinyl.

I am working on a couple projects and need some sheet metal parts so I asked Garold if I could grab the car from him when he had picked it’s bones clean… Garold agreed.
Garold being the generous soul that he is called and said he would bring the car to me!

We rolled the car into Kinnaman’s shop and I noticed the engine was still in the car, Garold said he didn’t have the time to pull it, he said go ahead and take the engine and transmission…it is a tail-shifter anyway.

Yesterday Mark Kinnaman, Mike Bednar and I pulled the engine and transmission.
I started to pull the exhaust and induction system off of the engine.

I kept moving the engine and transmission assembly around when I noticed that it was a 1971 transmission with a clutch hoop on the side cover…that is weird they stopped that in 1970?

I notice a small aluminum tag on the “SD Oil Shell 1747A”

A no option 4 cylinder with an LSD what are the chances. Garold you are a lucky man!

I had no idea. Glenn being himself is way to honest and could have kep this info to himself and I wouldn't have ever known. This is way to cool! It will need a sideshift change done to it then it will spend the rest of its life in my AX weapon!

Thanks again Glenn. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

The future home for this trans.

Nice find! Love the autocross shots too. The Minilites (Panasports?) are a great look on the 914.

I had that happen. I bought a 915 off of Pelican Parts to temporarily replace the 915 in my 911 when it got stuck in second gear. $1000 it cost me and I thought that was a pretty good deal because I hadn't seen another for less than $1500 - $2000.

Then when McMark and I were putting the engine and transmission back in the 911, Mark says 'hey, did you know this is an LSD?' Ummm... no. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) Made a good deal much better!

I would say yes. It's Glenn's car now. There has been some talk of making it a racer or?????

The body is amazingly good. Rust through the front trunk seal area. Right rear quarter is damaged and a few dents. Really too nice to cut up.

So would this have been a special order car then or added later? What was the cost way back then? Very interesting, thanks for sharing.

I don't know to be honest. I'm thinking of ordering a COA for just to see what Porsche says.
