Let's face it. Only in the 70's would a car come in so many wacky, crazy outrageous colors! The 914 was BY FAR no exception. Which are your favorite and least favorite of the 914 rainbow? The 914 came in 37 DIFFERENT COLORS (Actually 40, but 3 were the same color later renamed)! With as many as 14 OPTIONS A YEAR! I can’t think of ANY car that came in so many color selections! And let's face it - part of the appearance appeal of the 914 was the fact that it came in some really wacky colors. Having a 914 in a "normal" color almost just doesn't fit. For such a funky looking car, it's got to have a funky looking color!

With such an extensive variety of color selections, most of which you won’t find even remotely close to nowadays, which colors are your favorites - and least favorites? Post some good pics of 914s in your favorite colors - especially if it's yours! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/first.gif)

Saturn Yellow is of course the best of them all.

THAT is a nice looking yellow! That is my favorite yellow of them all! Also known as Chrome Yellow in later years. Very nice!

Porsche offered great colors back then.

I agree with you. Can you imagine walking on the lot and seeing the same car in 15 different colors? Imagine that today! Now everything is white, black, silver, gray, beige, maybe red and maybe blue if you're lucky. Especially on the 914 (I think since it was intended for a younger audience) it just came in such an assortment of great colors. Colors even came in multiple shades (several blues, greens, yellows, reds, etc.). Just makes them even more interesting and unique. Never boring.

I think about what the Porsche-Audi dealer on Manchester in Buena Park, CA looked like all the time. At night with the lot all lit up it was like a sparkly box of crayons. Wish I had a picture of that place. I bought a '73 Sunflower Yellow 1.7 from them. It was an incredible color, so deep you could walk down into it, so bright it would attract bugs like a porch light.

My current 914 is a Marathon Blue '74 2.0. I wanted silver but got blue by the luck of the draw and I've come to love the color.

I think rnellums Ice Green Metallic is the prettiest color on a 914 ever, but there are sooooo many in second place.

Marathon Blue

That's the nicest looking Marathon Blue I've seen!

Black is one of my least favorite colors on a 914 (for all the reasons I mentioned in the very first comment of the thread). I know it's really popular, but I think it hides a lof of the curves and angles on the car. Plus, it just doesn't seem to look as good as all those crazy, bright colors it came in - almost 40! I think black mutes the personality of the car too much. It's more fun than that. That's just my taste though.

Hell yeah! I just bought a Creamisicle too! Wait... the pictures didn't attach... :/ there was a pic of a bumblebee, creamsicle and grasshopper, fyi.

I really dig the Grasshopper color scheme. I wonder why there was talk about it but it never went into production? Maybe because there was already a white one (Creamsicle). (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Color Psychology

Black is the color of authority and power.

Brides wear white to symbolize innocence and purity.

The most emotionally intense color, red stimulates a faster heartbeat and breathing.

The color of the sky and the ocean, blue is one of the most popular colors.

Green symbolizes nature. It is the easiest color on the eye and can improve vision. It is a calming, refreshing color.

Cheerful sunny yellow is an attention getter. While it is considered an optimistic color, people lose their tempers more often in yellow rooms, and babies will cry more. It is the most difficult color for the eye to take in, so it can be overpowering if overused. Yellow enhances concentration, hence its use for legal pads. It also speeds metabolism.

Mark,
(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) The bright colors on small cars are great, I like the bright green color of FORD's small car, I think it's the FORD FOCUS car??
